Wyboston Lakes

8.6
Very Good See all 52 reviews

Set in 380 acres of Bedfordshire countryside, Wyboston Lakes Resort delivers a proper parkland golf break with all the extras you'd want off the course. The par 70 layout skirts the Great River Ouse, weaving between lakes and water hazards that'll punish anything loose, particularly on the three short par 3s where water hugs the greens and your swing suddenly feels a lot more important. It's a course that rewards accuracy over power, with wind off the water often making it play longer than the 6,000-yard card suggests.

The location works brilliantly. You're next to the historic market town of St Neots, easily reached from across the UK, and it's become a go-to escape for London golfers wanting proper countryside without the drive time. With 416 contemporary rooms, a Health & Leisure Club, The Gravel Pit Brasserie & Bar, and a Trackman driving range on site, Wyboston Lakes gives you everything you need for a multi-day golf tour of Bedfordshire and the surrounding counties.

Who is this for?

Golfers and groups who want an easy UK break with everything in one place: a water-lined parkland course, decent practice options and a sociable set-up for evenings. Ideal for societies, weekend trips, or anyone wanting a relaxed base to explore Bedfordshire golf, with easy access from London and the Midlands.

Who is it best for?

Mixed-ability societies who'll enjoy a strategic par 70 that keeps you thinking, plus plenty to do after the golf, from sports bars and games to the Aqua Park and a bookable spa session. Perfect for groups wanting comfort, choice and a proper 19th hole without having to leave the resort.

Wyboston Lakes Golf Club

The par 70 layout at Wyboston Lakes runs along the Great River Ouse and offers a varied, water-heavy challenge that suits golfers of all abilities. Stretching to 6,000 yards, it's not about overpowering the course, it's about placing your ball in the right spots and avoiding the hazards that define the round.

Water comes into play on eight holes, but it's the 3rd, 5th and 7th that will stick in your memory. All three are short par 3s with greens surrounded by water, demanding accurate approach shots and a steady nerve. Right, I'll be honest, those water-backed par 3s are the kind of holes you remember on the drive home, for better or worse. Miss the target and you're reaching for another ball.

The wind is the other factor that makes Wyboston Lakes play tougher than the yardage suggests. Coming off the multiple lakes, it can add serious length to your approach shots and turn what looks like a comfortable mid-iron into a long club you weren't expecting. It's a course that rewards course management and punishes anything loose, making it both enjoyable and challenging in equal measure.

Wyboston Lakes is perfectly equipped for a golf break, with practice facilities, a Trackman driving range and everything you need to keep your game sharp between rounds. The greens are well maintained and the fairways offer enough width to keep the round moving, but stray too far offline and the water hazards will find you quickly. It's a solid parkland test that'll keep you honest without beating you up, ideal for groups looking for variety and a proper challenge.

If you fancy a weekend here, you can include Wyboston Lakes on your next UK golf break with Your Golf Travel.

Accommodation at Wyboston Lakes

Wyboston Lakes offers two distinct accommodation options, both designed to suit golfers whether you're here for business or pure leisure.

Drift Inn is the contemporary choice, built for modern golfers who want style and comfort after a day on the fairways. Every room, whether you opt for a Drift Classic or upgrade to a Drift Classic Plus, comes with an en-suite bathroom, TV, fast Wi-Fi and tea and coffee facilities. It's a clean, comfortable retreat that ticks every box without fuss.

The real highlight is The Gravel Pit Café-Bar, which overlooks East Lake and the 18th green. It's the perfect spot to settle in for the evening, with a menu packed with golfer favourites: stacked burgers, crispy wings, stone-baked pizzas and fresh salads, all served in a relaxed, unpretentious atmosphere. The inclusive dinner is three courses from a reduced menu, and pre-orders are required for groups larger than 10.

If you're not ready to call it a night, the competition continues off the course. Challenge your group to darts or shuffleboard, catch the latest match on Sky Sports, or head to The Bunker, a dedicated chill-out zone with PS5s and lounge seating where you can settle any unfinished business from the round.

The Willows Training Centre is the no-nonsense option for bigger groups, offering 193 en-suite standard rooms, all with free Wi-Fi, tea and coffee, and the usual amenities you'd expect. It's straightforward, functional and ideal for those prioritising value.

Dining here is centred around The Cricket Kitchen, which serves a two-course street food menu featuring burgers, hot dogs and pizzas. Pre-orders are required for groups over 10. The Cricket Kitchen also houses a sports bar with pool tables and screens for the football, plus The Loft, a games room stocked with dartboards, foosball, shuffleboard and multiple TVs showing Sky Sports and TNT Sports. It's built for groups who want to keep the social side going long after the final putt drops.

Guests staying at either option can add a session at the Aqua Park at Ride Leisure, located on the resort. The park features trampolines, huge slides, balance beams, rockers, a 7-metre swing, a climbing wall and a 40 ft ball game arena, making it a brilliant addition for groups or families looking for something different.

Leisure Facilities

Unwind in the Y Spa, which features an outdoor hydrotherapy pool, sauna, steam rooms, mist showers, relaxation areas and water beds. There are eleven therapy rooms available for treatments, and the thermal experiences are designed to boost circulation and eliminate toxins, combining water therapy with cutting-edge Touchless Wellness treatments. The Y Spa is a bookable extra and advance booking is recommended. Free access to the onsite gym at the 1Life Leisure Club is included for all guests.

Despite the recent terrible weather course was surprisingly playable, greens were very soft but to be expected would happily play again.

In poor condition due to the bad weather. Would have preferred to have cancelled altogether and be given a refund but obviously this is difficult because we’d already travelled 2+ hours to get there. Greens were horrendous, footprints everywhere, and like trying to putt on jelly. Some of the tee boxes were shocking, not because of the rain, jut very undulating. Course was closed on day 2 and so we were given a £15 pp refund, however, this made the trip £75 per person for 1 round of golf on a poor course and the hotel, with a 2+ hour drive home. Overall not very happy but what can you do.

We were rained off on Sunday due to torrential rain making course unplayable. Played on Monday and course was in reasonable condition.

The course was in good condition, the bunkers could do with some attention but you get that at most golf courses. Good challenge for all standard of golfers

Ideal course for seniors / ladies / mixed groups. Plenty of water to catch you out, course management is key so no advantage for the big hitters. Some of the greens need weed control urgently, but overall a great experience. We will return. Well stocked pro shop and very helpful staff.

Few issues due to adverse weather bringing trees down and scattering branches over fairways but not a lot the staff could do about it. Great value for money...
