Celtic Manor Resort Hotel 5*

The whole Celtic Manor stay was wonderful. Everything was great, especially especially signature room on the sixth floor..

A stunning location and a great facility. Food was great. Room was functional and clean but nothing special.

Excellent short stay. The room was very comfortable, with very welcome air-conditioning and a good shower after a long, hot day on the golf course. A really impressive breakfast too.

Great stay amazing hotel

A lovely resort. Most of the staff were very polite and helpful. However the hotel is expensive for drinks etc. As part of our booking deal we had a meal included. This meal only covers you for £30 of the deal, so we were very surprised when a £20 surcharge was pushed under our bedroom door! We were not told of this by Yourgolf prior to our booking !

Our room was very nice, we went out for food to the local Toby Carvery as it's very expensive in the hotel.

Comfortable room but the little extras missing from what you'd expect to find in a 5 start hotel/resort. I'd booked two restaurants; PAD and the Steak at Eight. Food was fantastic, prices as you'd expect from their respective ratings but the price of the alcohol required very deep pockets. You have to book to use the pool and you're only given 45mins to change, swim etc, shower and dry. Breakfast had all the usual goodies and was very nice. I appreciate it's a large hotel but it's a shame the tea and coffee come from a machine, I'd expect it to be served to the table at a 5 start establishment.

The hotel was amazing as always

We had a terrible time on this trip, really disappointed on the resort which we thought would be 5* luxury and was far from it. No mention of it being a family orientated hotel with lots of child activities. The standards of the room were poor, uncomfortable beds, no water provided in the room, spa facilities were very tired and worn down…

Great hotel . We had a fabulous time . Resort is huge . Great shuttle Buses that take you around resort. Only one disappointing experience was in The Grill restaurant . The steak was expensive for what it was . Quality of food not great! The golf was amazing , lovely staff and great facilities.

Superb. We travelled as a group of nine for a stay and play. Rooms were great, restaurants incredible. No issues with any aspect. From check in to check out, the whole stay was excellent. Staff are extremely helpful, friendly and helpful right across the resort,in the restaurants, at the golf courses etc. Shuttle bus is great way to get around aswell.

Great place to stay

The hotel is a real experience with very welcoming staff and fabulous facilities. The Steak at Six and Rafters restaurants are a must if you are staying in the resort hotel. We will certainly be returning

Clean Friendly Hotel. We stayed in the main hotel in a signature room on level 6, private balcony and large size bathroom. Restaurant and bar on site. Other options are available but involve either a long walk or a shuttle bus service is offered on site to other areas of the resort. Ample parking both undercover and open air both at a cost. (Undercover parking charged at £20 overnight think open air parking was £8.50 but requires a short walk back to the main hotel).

Overall the hotel was impressive particularly the service and food/drink options. Unfortunately the bedroom was poor with inadequate air conditioning and in our case a problem with the toilet overflow which ran constantly.

Comfortable room. Smart TV not very smart at all! Hot water not hot enough for a bath but OK for shower. Excellent polite staff.

Resort by name and resort in feel, good room sizes, decent bathroom including shower pressure (pet hate) and a quiet nights sleep on the 10th floor. Breakfast had great choice and staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful across the resort. It has everything you need. One note I'd add, is once you've paid YourGolf Travel have nothing to do with you, zero service once you've handed over your money. I had to call Celtic Manor to check a few things prior to arriving with unanswered emails to YourGolf Travel not helping.

The staff were unhelpful and rude particularly reception and bar staff It was almost as if a group of 12 golfers were an inconvenience to them eg for dinner they could not cater for a group of 12 but they could do 2x 6 Even although we had booked breakfast no member of staff told us that you still had to book a table fortunately another guest told us Very poor service from bar staff it even got to the point where we had to ask to speak to the duty manager There is certainly 12 guys who wouldn’t go back and certainly wouldn’t recommend it to their friends

The hotel decor is a bit tired and dated, but the service was very good and our two meals at Steak on Six and Rafters were wonderful.

What we paid for the two nights and three days playing the three golf courses at celtic manor was a fair price from YourGolfTravel on reflection - But as for the experience the prices at the resort was vastly over priced and the food quality served in the restaurant's was not a reflection of the prices you paid - The bedroom we had was very presentable & clean - But the aircon was next to useless during our stay which made sleep near impossible as the room stayed uncomfortable hot - In all I think the Celtic Manor are relying on the Name linked to the Ryder Cup - but I personally would not recommend or revisit

The only reason I haven't given it a 5 star review is down to the catering. I tried to book a table for 12and was told I had to complete a form online and would hear back in 2/3 days (ridiculous in itself) after three days I called again and was again told I would have to complete another form and it could be another 2/3 days, I am still waiting for a response having now returned!! As a result we had to book outside of the resort. The catering at the half way houses were also atrocious on all three days there was no hot food, just crisps, which for a resort of this standing is very poor.

The only fault I would have is that we had to book on line for all restaurant bookings, even breakfast and then over heard some guests being told they could go to breakfast any time between 7 and 9. One night we tried to book and on line nothing available, but staff managed to get us booked in, and it was almost empty, so not sure what that was all about??

The hotel and facilities are great but I was disappointed with the lack of contact and information prior to our visit. Fortunately we were there early but were not made aware that we effectively had to be there an hour early for our bags to be taken to the 2010 course and that we would have to be driven down to the first tee. I had no contact from Your Golf Travel once payment had been made and feel that some notes on the faculties, which are vast and not easy to navigate, would have been very helpful

Lovely place. Little error that in my room they only had the used cups from the previous customer. Would not hold that against them. Would stay there again. Food was great.

Good hotel, very disappointed that we had to pay a dinner charge of £8 per person per night which wasn't made clear to us before booking considering we had paid out over £7,000 for this trip. I will be taking this further with the hotel. It would of been nice if YourGolfTravel highlighted this cost on our booking details an not add this in at the end in the small print.

The hotel itself was grand and well equipped. The staff tbh were not that friendly and or welcoming. Location just of the M4 is ideal for travelling from distance. Bars and Forum spa are brilliant. The room was comfortable, although one of my party described the room as 'hotter than the steam room'.

Could not get booked into ANY of the restaurants on site.

I booked a 1 night 2 round trip for my son as a Christmas present, seeing as this is a golf resort one would think they would provide heated golf bag storage and boot cleaning facilities,Neither are!I was told(by a member of staff) that players just leave them in the car! £20 for secure parking! 22 minutes to be served a beer (virtually empty bar) The cooked breakfast that is included is worse than a microwave meal. Will not be using the accommodation on site again

Hotel was poor, air extractor in bathroom was dirty and had mould growing around it, no hot water when first arrived in the room as it was on the tenth floor and not been occupied recently. Would not go back.

The hotel is not the prettiest from the outside but ideally situated and quality. London prices for drinks and food but the exceptional facilities made that fair. You can’t go far wrong staying here if you want a golf fest

Our room was on the tenth floor, the facilities were very basic. The restaurants were very expensive, Steak on Six has a menu set at £68.00, however if you only have a steak you will still be charged the fixed price of £68.00. Cocktails are £15.00 each.

Celtic manor hotel superb, staff in reception very helpful and polite. Decor very nice too. Had drinks in the bar, had 4 rounds of drinks, waitress had language issues, another waitress kept coming over to check order !! Played golf on Montgomery & Roman rd and both were great courses. Greens superb on both courses. Montgomery was a challenging walk, very hilly but great contours for the course. Roman road took over 5 hours, very slow with group 3 ahead of our tee time, needed Marshall to move them on, but did not happen. Greens on both courses were excellent. Breakfast was very tasty, all quality food and a great variety. Booked through YGT, no issues, had upgraded rooms that were fab, will definitely be back again

The hotel was superb very clean and facilities perfect. Hotel Staff friendly. Had first night dinner in the Grill again perfect- food excellent and service spot on. Easy to travel to the grill just asked in reception and a shuttle bus arrived within a couple of minutes. We parked in the academy car park (free) for Both nights. Left clubs in car overnight and used shuttle bus to and from The hotel. Moved car to 2010 car park for The final day. Only let down was the meal in the Olive Tree. Very poor for a 5* hotel. Food uncovered left out in the heat main meals dry and unappetising. Service very very slow not enough staff. Would not advise eating there. Apart from that 5* on everything else.

After playing the 2010 course on Wednesday, we decided as it was our first night at Celtic Manor, we all decided to eat in a restaurant on site, but after booking for 13 people, the restaurant decided that they could only house 5 people from our group, so after some delegation with the group, we decided not to eat on site and decided to go to the Beefeater down the road, but with the time of night when we were told (it was around 21:45) that all 13 could not be accommodated for, we scrambled to get some people to the other place for food, but this was too late and half of our group went without dinner which put most of us in a bit of a bad place. After we all met up with some of us still without food, we decided to see the night in at the bar, but the bartenders saw us as a large group and decided to put all our drinks on 1 tab when we specifically told them that we are all going to pay separate, so when it came to the end of the night, the bill was just around £200 for only a handful of drinks, as it then came to light that they had double charged us for half of our drinks as we asked them to split the final bill between some of the group. We were reluctant to pay this as we spoke to one of the managers that was behind the bar that night, but nothing was done and they decided to walk away without the issue at hand being resolved so some of us are still out of pocket.

Tried to book breakfast for following day at around 7pm after checking in, only time available was 7am which wasn't really any good to us after going out on the night, I did ask at reception if we could go in at another time but was told we could only eat at the times available, so unfortunately had to go out to find food that being the McDonald's round the corner. We did have breakfast on the following day, choice was good but everything from the hot plate was cold so not very enjoyable. Staff were friendly and helpful but the food was a massive letdown.

Very dissapointed with room service, do not use the app as although you may get an email confirmation for food and drink times, you don't get the order. 3 hr wait following a phone call to reception, they then advised the app was down.This should have been communicated far better.

Despite the hotel and facilities being 5 star, the trip for the group didn’t start well as we had no hotel room booking. We were obviously not impressed with this.

I will give 5 stars to the concierge/porter staff, who were excellent. Reception pretty good, too. Service in Merlin's Bar dreadfully slow. The housekeeping staff who left top-up biscuits & open pot of fresh milk in the corridor outside our room - not so much. The top-ups disappeared and who knows what was done to the open milk.

Great course, But by the time I finished around, it was about seven hours and sticking to the paths when using the buggy added added a little frustration because you didn't know what club you would need you was on the other side of the fairway so had to do some work with club selection to take with me but apart from that what a great course really enjoyed it

Great golf course, very hard for anybody over 10 h'cap. Best Stableford score was 30 points with the h'cap adjustment.

Having played the Twenty Ten course the day before in high winds and rain, the conditions were a lot calmer. The course is a lot more open and forgiving which allowed for better scoring. Lots of beautiful scenery, really nice holes from either elevated tees or elevated greens. Scoring was a lot better on this course and would definitely go back.

Group of 8 and of varied handicaps, unfortunately the weather was poor, high winds and rain which made an already tough course almost unplayable at times. Players taking drivers on par 3’s due to the strength of the wind or over shooting the green. Course was long and tough, very challenging, no forgiveness anywhere with the amount of water and bunkers. Enjoyable round, but not as enjoyable or picturesque as the other course we played.

Great course I thoroughly enjoyed the bourse greens were really fast and tricky again I would definitely recommend. Very good value for money.

I played this course Saturday 24th of August it was an awesome and enjoyable round of golf. The course was an excellent condition green were really fast and tricky they were hard to read. I would definitely recommend this course.

Played this course with 15 people and we all enjoyed every moment of it. It’s a very hilly course and took us 5.30 hours to complete our round as 4 balls but it was worth the money. I would definitely play this course and get a buggy next time.

A true test, especially in the rain.

Loved the Montgomerie course. Some really well designed holes, with plenty of challenging lay-outs and undulating greens in good condition.

5.5 hours on a searingly hot day was too long. A bit disappointed by the quality of the fairways in particular.

Anyone who likes a golf day out needs to experience this day, 10 out of 10, 5 stars, just don't do it justice, lifetime memories. Staff 10 out of 10.

Everything from being driven to the clubhouse, checking in, playing and post game was an absolute delight. Fantastic Facility.

I think the favourite of the three with the backdrop of the main hotel. Clubhouse and service was outstanding, not short staffed like most tourist places in the UK, perfect in every way.

During briefing at the start, they stated our clubs would be taken afterwards and cleaned, this did not happen. We were advised this would happen on the briefing at the start. Also, the briefing stated we would receive a bag tag at the end, this did not happen. Could I request x 8 of these from the course? In general a good day but club should not promise things they did not deliver. This took the shine off the day.

Course in very good condition.

The course is good. The issue we had was that buggies aren't compulsory. The course was far too busy with a mixture of group sizes, some with buggies and some without. This meant that with 10 minute intervals between tee times, the course became completely jammed up. As a result, unfortunately we left after playing 14 holes as two groups were on each tee box at the same time. The course is lovely but this situation needs to be reviewed.

it blows my mind how they have let the course get this bad !!! the bunkers were shocking, some were like concrete and others the sand would come over your feet, greens weedy, and in terrible condition for this amount of money i wouldn't bother, i have played better condition courses for £30

Well the Twenty Ten Course, what can you say, as a golfer you are walking the fairways of history, the course was in excellent condition, and the views from some points on the course are simply spectacular.

Extremely hard work on the walking side, some very steep climbs and descents to deal with, buggies are available but they have to stick to the paths which could mean just as much walking, however the course was in great condition, the greens were lighting fast as, which was a challenge. Which resulted in more laughing than saying good putt well played.

Only four and a half hours to get round. This course probably more like a "normal" course but a few tough holes. A couple of holes run along the access road which disrupts play a little. Maybe because we played this course after the 2010 and the Monty we were a bit more warmed up so had better rounds.

Slow round - over five hours but held up by society of 40+ in front of us. Some really tough holes, especially on the back nine where an errant tee shot would be punished. Greens fast and sloping so when landing a wedge onto the green, it would slowly roll off! However, more of a challenge and more enjoyable than the 2010.

Tough course - first time I've played so don't remember many of the holes in detail! Pretty slow round - five hours. Impressed by the effort of the resort to make this a premium experience - nice touches. We played as part of a package so not sure about value for money but expect it would be expensive for a single round.

The facilities for the Roman Road course are still impressive, but seemed a bit lacking having been treated to the royalty of the 2010 the day prior. The more gentle of the three on site courses, but still an incredible test of golf. The 7th, with the back shelf pin position, was unplayable to anything left short of the pin on the second or third shots, due to the speed of the greens. Plenty of de-greening between the group, but more open to feel free to let the driver rip a bit more than the 2010 and the Monty. Superb value for money and a great way to start or end your golfing experience at Celtic Manor.

Another tough day on the course, but still enjoyable. A really stern test of golfing ability that favours accuracy over distance. Clearly designed by a player that was accurate with mid to long irons, but not the longest off the tee. The scenery was terrific, but the walk maybe not for the more senior demographic. Some VERY tough walks between holes, with severe uphill and downhill walks. Another tough test, but well worth a green fee.

The 2010 Course was the first we played of the three on site courses, and it was a very humbling experience. Having sat at the bar and watched three players putt off the green and into the water on the famous 18th hole - we laughed at (what we thought) was some poor quality of golf. Turns out the joke was on us - the pace of the greens made the course borderline unplayable, with our group de-greening short puts on multiple occasions. Tough test - don't expect to shoot 36 points on this course. Anything over 24 points is definitely to be celebrated.

A great corse having played the 2010 the day before this corse I found harder playing off 28 there is a lot of blind shots and lots of hills.i would recommend a buggy as ther is some long walks in between some holes also.even tho I found it hard I would definitely be going back to play again .it's well worth playing .

Wow just wow they treat you extremely well here.from taking your bags to cleaning your clubs and shoes after this is the best golfing experience ever.the corse is fantastic I play of 28 but found it ok,some hard holes but all very enjoyable.you can walk this corse bit we had a buggy and it was fine ,just remember to stay on the buggy path tho.the 18th is just incredible.all the staff can't do enough for you.what a amazing place.

Buggy’s in front slow us down

Enjoyable course quite hilly, book buggies pre round

Dont play this course on a windy it will ruin you, pack plenty of balls! Annoyingly you cant take buggy on fairways :(

Wow. What views. Superb. Buggy is a must. Very hilly. Very long walks from greens to tees. Some blind shots but wonderful to play. Again a bit soggy especially in the rough but considering the amount of rain the night before we played the course was in great condition. Starter was very informative. Again cannot fault this place. Absolutely superb.

Fantastic experience from start to finish. Courtesy bus drivers very friendly and informative. All staff had smiles to greet you. We arrived early but we're told we could go out as a comp was only half full so course was clear. They took our clubs and trolleys to the driving range next to first tee. We were treated like royalty. We had millionaires golf until we caught comp up but so many staff stopped to chat, we were never waiting. Chap at halfway hut was very nice. Thanks for the jaffa cake 😋. Course was very long and coming out of a very wet spring there was no roll on fairways which made it very tough to score. But it was superb. The views are amazing. Well done to you all. An experience we will never forget.

We picked a wet day which meant the course was not busy. Waterlogged in places on the fairway, but very playable and greens were excellent, though surprisingly firm. Minor confusion on the tee regarding times. Clearly Celtic Manor have a communication problem between pro shop & starter.

Greens were brilliant. Fairways need some attention but this maybe to do with the weather we’ve had. Didn’t like that the buggies had to stick to the paths.

I love this courser having played it before. I had forgotten how hilly it is and the need for a buggy. It was a little boggy after a long wet winter but just ok the weekend of 10th May. We had a clearly inexperienced 4 ball in front of us walking and they were just far in front enough to not really need to let us through so we felt a course marshal might have ben appropriate and we didn't see one.

Again fairways was like playing on mud only played 9 holes due to 4 ball jumping in on 10th hole which should be monitored by staff to stop happening

The court was commonly waterlogged thick mud. Lost 8 balls ON FAIRWAYS. The course should not have been open and we should have been notified of the adverse weather conditions

This was our second day of playing (played Monty day 1 which was in poor shape). Ground staff managed to get the mowers on the course so there was much better definition between rough and fairway. While the greens were in great shape the fairways were still very boggy resulting in zero carry from drives and multiple lost balls through plugging.

Absolute disgrace of a golf course. Only played 3 holes of a 2 day trip. Took 1 and half hours for 3 holes because the course is not fit to play. Complete bog, nothing cut ,so was like hitting into a ploughed field. Lost ball every shot as it was so wet the ball plugged in middle of what they claimed was a fairway and everyone on each hole searching for balls. Complete waste of money and time. They should be ashamed of themselves for taking people’s money. People getting free upgrades to 2010 course but being turned down as too wet to play.

Confusingly the drainage of this was far better than the 2010 we played the day before and apparently the 2010’s should be A1 as it’s relatively new? Greens were better, faster and a lot truer too

6hr+ round with buggies! Held up before even teeing off the 1st. Greens surprisingly slow and very bobbly

The course was unplayable due to lack of proper drainage. Mud from tee to green up and above ankles! Unplayable, balls would disappear in the mud! Only played 4 holes, extremely disappointing! As this this was the first round we asked how it compared to the other two courses, it was the driest! We then had to cancel all tee times and find an alternative golf course that was playable. The courses should have been closed and YGT should have checked to see if their recommended holiday was playable!

We did not enjoy our round. The course was unplayable. Spent 5 minutes after every shot looking for balls in the middle of the fairway due to the condition. Any other course would be closed. A prior notice from ygt would of been nice notifying us of these conditions.

It’s the worst golf experience I have ever had All the staff don’t tell you the truth about the Conditions before play just we have had a lot of rain The course is dangerous to walk let alone play golf on It should not be open to play I also contacted your customer service department a week before with my concerns as I’ve red some reviews and your customer service Said I will check it out and get back to you and I got a email saying it’s all fine How can you possibly send people there your clients it’s embarrassing We didn’t play the second day 2 of the players walked off after 7 holes on the first day I want a full refund Im extremely disappointed

90 degree rule with buggies so not much point having one however, not as boggy as the Montgomerie but still very soft under foot. We endeavoured and played the full 18 but players were walking off after 4 holes. Half way house great! Enjoyed the course and will return to play later this year with our voucher. Club house and pro shop were great and the men's locker room absolutely amazing unfortunately the same can't be said for the ladies.

The course was not as wet as the Montgomery but still very wet was just about playable they did give us the opportunity to get a free round if we didn't want to play but as we had come so far and played the day before we played

This was the worst golf experience we have ever had as a group after playing for many years, the course should be shut, end of. I would want a refund if I paid £10 for a green fee on it let alone £100+. A real shame as we were so excited to play it and travelled 4+ hours but it we got there and it was in a terrible state, uncut fairways, every shot would plug under the ground and ball would be lost, greens were slow and bobbly. We asked for a refund at the desk but nothing given as we got round the course. If we hadn’t travelled that far and paid big money we would’ve walked off after 3 holes.

The conditions of the fairway and rough weren’t great. This was primarily due to the weather but it would have been good to gave at least ball cleaners on the tees and other simple things that would improve the experience.

So disappointed! We spent more time looking for our balls which were plugged due to the really poor course conditions and lack of drainage. A lot of golf balls are still on or rather in the fairways. It really should have been closed in my opinion and others that we spoke with also concur. ☹️

It had clearly rained a lot and the course was very boggy, but it’s a lovely course overall. Definitely recommend a buggy, there are such long walks between some of the holes

It was such a shame it had rained so much - the fairways were practically unplayable, on multiple occasions we hit balls to the middle of the fairway but they plugged so deep they disappeared. The course was magnificent

A bucket list course ticked off the list! Great to be able to step into the footprints of some Ryder Cup legends! The course has a nice layout to it, it is a nice walk in the valley with a some lovely views. I enjoyed playing the 2010 and felt it was the type of course you would enjoy playing again and again. It’s a nice length, a good challenge with some good holes that make you think and a really strong set of finishing holes. We played in late March in ideal conditions on the day and light which highlighted how beautiful the landscape is, however they have obviously had a lot of weeks of rain so the course was extremely boggy. Tees and greens were in great condition (greens slightly on the slow side, kept slightly long given the recent conditions I expect) but a lot of soft squelchy patches underfoot. No roll on the fairways as a result, in fact balls were just plugging. You’d hit a great drive and then lose your ball because you couldn’t find it plugged deeply on the fairway. Must have found 4 or 5 lost balls that had plugged on the fairway. Flip side of the conditions was that the greens were nice and receptive and fun to attack. Would like to play it in the summer in its peak condition. Only minor criticisms would be I was surprised there was no flag colour coding system or anything to tell you how far the flag was on, no ball washers and not much by the way of on course marker. Even the famous drivable dog leg doesn’t have a bell???

This course was first class. From start to finish the experience was great. The staff were polite and professional at all times, really made us feel welcome. We all are looking at going to play the 2010 again.

The course was in appalling condition, with all fairways soaked and any ball driven ending up being plugged and non visible. Standing water in many areas making it exceptionally difficult to navigate a trolley around. Mud was over the golf shoes in places. In my opinion a total waste of time going out.

Wasn't able to play due to conditions. Didn't want to give a poor rating so put all 4s. Visually looked good from the clubhouse. Flatter than Montgomery course.

Very hilly, I recommend buggies. The round was slow due to conditions, rather than pace of play. Very wet at the time (March) and spent time looking for balls that plugged. Brilliant views, particularly back 9. High handicappers will find it tough. Plays long when wet and cold (Limited ball carry and no roll out on landing).

In one of the highest rainfall areas of the UK, the courses have been built on a clay base with no drainage ditches on the fairways despite being part of the Celtic Manor Resort which requires that the courses are open regardless of the weather. The Pro and managers all agreed that the courses shouldn't be open but are obliged by their partnership with the Celtic Manor Resort to be open 365 days a year. Will we get our money back, I would doubt it, we were offered another freebie winter round as compensation, but who will pay the travel costs to get there ?

You know that after you have hit your opening shot on the first, slightly offside of the fairway in what was good looking grass, to find your ball had imbedded itself angled in rather than just plugged and looking back across at your partner in the centre of the fairway with soft ground / water over her laces in her shoes, trying to hack the ball out with a big chunk of mud every shot, that this wasn't going to be a great round. We played the second, looked ahead to see none of the players ahead on the third, I guess they all did what we did and walked back to the clubhouse. Really poor guys, these courses are badly in need of investment of drainage ditchs to be considered worthy if you want to play them at all in the winter months.The Pro and managers all agreed that the courses shouldn't be open but are obliged by their partnership with the Celtic Manor Resort to be open 365 days a year. playing golf in Wales in November is always risky, however, we caught an excellent sunny day but conditions were still soggy underfoot which was challenging on some holes. Green had been spiked but were still excellent and fast but true. We had a good round taking into account the conditions and are planning a return trip when we can get a decent run of the golf ball on the fairways

Just like playing a public course, needed wellington boots not golf shoes to play in. Another course that shouldn’t have been open. In places on the fairway your feet sunk 6 inches. Never coming back and definitely wouldn’t recommend it.

Course should have been closed. Can’t believe that the course was open, it was so wet and boggy you were loosing balls when you hit the fairway. Just like playing in a quagmire. I wouldn’t bother going back and I think they are just using the Ryder Cup as a draw to get you there. Played much better courses. On a plus note the staff were very friendly and helpful. Won’t be recommending it to anyone.

Great course, played this on the dryest day we had, good weather. Greens were immaculate considering, fairways were sludgy in places, but we got round really quickly. Great course.

Iconic Ryder cup venue, as with everything at Celtic Manor it was superb. As with the rest of the stay, the heavy rain in the previous days made a great course harder. Still had a great time by all of our party. Greens were immaculate again.

Tough course, made harder by the amount of rainfall in the days previous. Very sludgy in parts, but the greens were immaculate. Hard slog, due to weather but still enjoyable. Not much the course can do about British weather.

We had 50 mph winds and driving rain for most of the round but it played well except for bunkers which were sodden. A tough course.

The course played ok and I definitely recommend taking a buggy round the Monty as it’s very hilly and there is some distance between greens & tees.

We were under very tight time constraints due to having to attend a function on the evening we played the Twenty Ten, so a 5-hour round wasn’t ideal and we had to forfeit playing 16, 17 & 18. However the course is in great condition although slightly wet on the day. Looking forward to playing it again, perhaps without an 8-year gap this time.

I would advise arriving at the 2010 course At least 45mins before your tee time to get checked in and prepped. The course requires you to drive or use one of the hotel shuttle buses to get there as it’s quite away from the main resort. Upon arrival, drop your clubs off then park. Clubs are taken to your buggy or if walking dropped at the starter hut for you. Shuttle service on offer to take you to the first tee. Practise area next to the starter hut to. We had a buggy but could only stick to the paths and not drive on the course which was annoying as it meant you had to park up walk to your ball get the yardage walk back to the buggy to get the right club then back to your ball or take a guess of the yardage and take 2/3 clubs with you! If you are playing with someone who finds a lot of walking difficult check first if you can drive the buggy on the fairways otherwise you will be in for a lot of walking and it may not suit that individual who finds a lot of walking difficult.

A more traditional course with one or two tricky holes and still a test. There was some groundwork when we played which was a minor disruption. Greens in good condition.

Should be named the Walt Disney course not the Montgomerie. Only about two pins visible from any tee and a huge number of blind shots. If you are playing with someone who knows their way around then perhaps it is a test but if it's your first time it is a gruelling experience which if your purpose is an enjoyable round of golf it doesn't come up to scratch. The conditions were wet when we played which didn't enhance the experience but I suspect even the dry would not have been significantly better. If you are only playing two courses on your trip avoid this one.

Choose the correct tees for your game and this is a pleasant course to play. Despite the wet conditions from the wettest July on record the greens were in good condition. Lots of water, geese and ducks!

Only criticism was as a 2 ball we were behind 3 4 balls so it was a bit slow, but the course was great and staff were very helpful. Clubhouse was also a great experience.

Roman Road exceeded our expectations. Where as we went into 2010 expecting the wow factor, this one was a very nice compliment. Long in places and not as open (more trees, less water!), but challenged you particularly with some of the complex green and up and down nature of some holes. I had arguably more fun. I'd recommend playing this particularly if you have 18+ HCPs in your group.

A tough course! Rewards the big hitters, especially when you are playing in 35mph wind and horizontal rain. The course itself is fairly open with water being the main danger, some of the holes feel abit forgettable but theres a great section in the middle with the lakes. Not as hilly as expected until the last 3 holes and then you craving a beer after being on course for nearly 5 hours. Outside of the course you have a nice clubhouse with all the 2010 trappings and some fun touches with 1st hole photos, bag tags and par 3 challenges. Worth a visit but can't say i'd be rushing back.

Must have a buggy because of the long distances between some holes. Having to stick to the buggy paths adds to much time to the round. We have been made aware of past tragedies for which we have great sympathy but as the buggies can be limited as to where they can go we would not have thought it was neccessary to stick to path when fairways are hard

A good test of golf on varied terrain. A long walk not spoiled but enhanced by variety of holes to test your thinking as much as your golf ability. Probably the course of the three that I'd most like to play again

The greens were okay and quicker than the Monty, the fairways hard, bumpy and like concrete (good luck getting a club under the ball), all of the bunkers were clay with no sand, and likely to damage your wrists, your clubs or both. Play was glacially slow and we heard from the group in front that the players in front of them were, to a man, all drunk even before they teed of at 11.30am, which clearly contributed (why did the resort staff not step in and refuse to allow them to play?). We gave up after 12 holes, disappointed and frustated. Venue seems more keen to take money off you (55 quid for a buggy!) and get as many out on the course at a time (in whatever condition) than to provide a great golfing experience. Nice bite to eat on the clubhouse patio afterwards, though!

We had a range of Golfers in our group of 24 varying from 5 to 28 handicap and without exception it was felt that the course was not suitable for a society. Greens too fast , Bunkers very poor & distance between some Tees and Greens long way. A number of us have played the Roman Road before which was fine.

General condition of course was excellent, some greens had been attacked by the local crows with severe peck marks on them. Round was very slow, however the course Marshall did give the group holding everyone up a bit of a Gee up and the pace of play improved for the back nine.

Great fun golf course. As with all CM courses the buggy situation spoilt all rounds, buggies staying on path’s doesn’t work, you end up walking across fairways with a handful of clubs etc. makes the rounds very slow and players with medical needs still struggle because of the amount of walking you still have to do on hilly courses.

Course was magnificent. The lack of staff to serve in the bar before & afterwards let the experience down. We had to find someone to serve a coffee before we started & left afterwards after waiting 10 minutes for a drink & got a drink elsewhere.

The greens were too quirky. Rock hard and played like crazy golf. Spoilt the enjoyment

Same as the other two courses poor course maintenance just want your money and not investing it back into the courses - Celtic Manor may have been a golf venue once but now its very much a corporate venue - focus on keeping the Hotel busy with corporate events & any money generated goes into the hotel first and what's left goes to the courses - which from our experience is very little - I would strongly suggest to any golfer or golfing party before considering Celtic Manor is to look at other courses i.g. The Grove, Woburn, Frilforth Heath, The Berkshire etc... great courses in great condition but NOT CELTIC MANOR

As with the above very poor course maintenance - One other item that was very bad was the ruling on buggies basically you were not allowed to take the buggy off the roads around the courses - which was & is totally stupid - reason's 1) you'd be walking a further distance to the ball from the buggy than you hit your golf ball ! 2) you would have to carry 3 to four clubs every time to ensure you had the club you needed and avoided slow play for the golfers behind 3) you get to see or experience the course layout and views which is the only thing going for Celtic Manor - Crazy

Considering this course was the feature course at Celtic Manor the course was in poor condition for the price you pay to play - the tee's were as dry as a bone - appeared to not have been watered and therefore the grass quality was very poor for a course of this standing - the fairways were also poorly prepared promotility meadow grass, dry as a bone and in a lot of cases your ball was on dried mud on the fairways farther than grass - could not see any sprinkler system evident or that they had been used if they were there, which consequently gave very poor fairway surfaces to hit the ball comfortably and when we come to the greens well again dry as a bone no evidence of being watered therefore even playing a wedge iron in the greens the ball would not hold - again having not been watered the greens consisted of mostly meadow grass - then we look at the bunkers well very poor, no bunker maintenance as far as we could see either very little sand basically hitting off compacted mud - very poor standards of greenkeeping course care - the only thing you could not argue with was the course layout & the surrounding views beautiful - so overall no care given to standards just going by reputation of Ryder Cup & take your money which is a shame :-(

Really interesting course, play the course very blind as you can’t see where your ball is landing because of the hills. A little dangerous with no bells or any indicator to know when it’s safe to drive. Very hilly if you have any issues waking I wouldn’t recommend even in a buggy.

Great course but very difficult to play which was expected. One tip for the course along with the others considering the weather conditions can play a big part over the course of the year in Wales, was to have more ball cleaning stations. Also the buggies do not have a club cleaner box which would be very handy in wet/muddy conditions at the resort.

I never loose balls, but this course managed to claim a few. The 2010 experience is something all golfers should experience, nothing is too much trouble for the team at 2010.

took us 5 hours and 25 minutes to play this course. As before what I said about the buggies. Stuck behind 4 ball societies in buggies was just a nightmare for us as a two ball. no one let us through.

I was told I did not need to book a buggy, on arrival I was told none available.( £55.00) so had to walk and hire an electric trolley (£20.00). The course was water logged, some long walks between holes, very hilly 3 hours front 9 and 2 1/2 back.

Would play that course again but although it was long Roman Road was harder.

It was unplayable - I don't think losing your ball in the middle of the fairway because it had gone underground is acceptable! How come every other course in the area (which had exactly the same amount of rain) was either shut or was in substantially better condition? the fairways hadn't been cut either, so across a lot of the course it was impossible to tell the difference between fairway and rough. Celtic Manor seem more interested in their profits it appears - £55 for a buggy as well, really?!?!

Probably the best golfing experience I’ve had the set up was first class and the staff were fantastic. Again we were lucky to be first off and it felt like we had the course to ourselves which made it extra special. A long course but it was stunning enjoyed every moment and a lovely touch at end which an engraved souvenir

We were lucky to be first off which worked out perfectly, from previous reviews we was expecting it to be a bit of slog and although the course was boggy in places it’s played pretty well especially the greens. The 1st was probably the hardest first I’ve ever played and the 12th was the stand out hole not only was it fun to play but you also got some stunning views and a little peak at the twenty ten course. Would 100% recommend a buggy

Very long walk between holes so would definitely recommend a buggy. Very wet and muddy when we played and cart path only so we opted to walk. Long round but nice enough course.

On arrival we were told that the course was on special measures and that we could opt to see how the first 4 holes were, and then decide if we wanted to play on, or cancel the round for a voucher. Having driven 3 hours that morning, and had a hotel included in the package, we were not going to turn around and go home to come back another day. It would have been much more helpful to have received a call the day before to let us know where we could have rescheduled our trip for a date where the course was actually playable. Appreciate the weather in early April isn’t always guaranteed for golf, but in this case, the damage with the rain was done earlier in the week so a call the day before we played would have been much appreciated as we would have rescheduled the trip.

The course was waterlogged and playing golf was a chore, I actually felt guilty looking back at my footsteps behind me, I thought that I was going to loose my golf shoes a few times. Not a gripe against the club but it wasnt an experience which was enjpyable.

Round took 5 and a half hours (with buggies). Again conditions were very wet and boggy. Unfortunately this ruined the experience.

We were 30 minutes delayed with our tee off and the round took 6 hours which is totally unacceptable. Surprised the course was open as the conditions were extremely wet and boggy. Real shame.

The golf course was in terrible condition and should have been closed, it was like a bog and far too wet!.. I’ve played it before and it was great but it was borderline non playable this weekend

Again very very wet but the sun came out. About right for 12, 15, 16 and 18 handicappers. We took buggies (which were slightly overpriced) and would recommend them, although my party is relatively fit, some of the hill climbs are tough. Would definitely play this course again.

It was very very wet but it is mid March and so no surprise. Greens however were in great condition considering. Not the hardest of courses for 12, 15, 16 and 18 handicappers but still a nice day out. Clubhouse is lovely.

Do not carry, very up and down and walks between holes

All the men absolutely loved the experience of playing on the 2010 course. Amazing course, amazing experience to see the golf lockers of players from the Ryder Cup and a lovely golf bag tag personalised with names on!

The final course of our 2 day stay, and once again a great day the weather held fair again and the facilities were great, we had a truly great experience playing theses courses and can't wait to try them again.

Course was okay, but the pace of play was absolutely not acceptable and I would not recommend anyone else play because of this. It would’ve been nearly a 6 hour round (as a 2 ball) if we hadn’t of walked off from the 16th tee, where there were 4(!) groups on the par 3. Shocking. Unfortunately the resort did nothing to compensate as a GOG.

Good test at the end of the trip! Certainly worth playing all three courses when you go here!

Such a brilliant course! Delayed due to fog but were sensible to do so! When getting out there course was amazing! Small detail of getting personalised bag tag at the end was a class touch! Would love to come back and test ourselves again here!

Really enjoyable! Helped no rain for the three days we went! Quirky but good test.

Dispite the overnight rain and recent thaw the course held up well. Will definitely be back later in the year. One thing I must add, the external boot cleaning facilities on both courses need to be much better.

Great golf course. Greens were superb, fast & true. Some naughty pin positions made putting & approach shots difficult

5 and a half hours to complete the round as had a group in front of us who we’re notices and did not know the etiquette of golf. Totally ruined the day for myself and my group. Aggressive behaviour shown my this group in front of us at the halfway house who refused to let us through even though they had lost the group in front of them. Again no marshals on the course and I would not play there again. I very upsetting experience!

Luvd every second of this experience! Buggies certainly made the round slower tho so wud defo walk it next time! Facilities were superb on the 2010 + a really nice touch from them were the personal engraved bag tags for each of us after the round! 👏 We also won a free round on the Monty Course from the Par 3 9th Challenge nxt time we visit 🤩 Thanks Guys we had a blast 👍

Good test of golf for our standard (Mid HC) the greens were easily the toughest we've ever played! Don't get short sided!!!! 😳🤣

We had 2 people who required buggies due to disability but the buggies are on a gps grid run down paths, so cut out if you go on the fairway. They had to give up after 2 holes as they were nearly walking as far as the walkers. Show your blue badge and they make an exception but we did not know this. A tough interesting course with some good holes but needs more time to mature. Good fun though, but we were spoilt by the Rolls of Monmouth the previous day.

I’ve been blessed to visit some great course, but the guest experience here was the best ever! The little things the staff did and the gifts you can take away from the day make it so special - like the bag tag with your name on it, your picture on the first tee and the par 3 challenge on the 10th hole. All in all the best golf experience I’ve ever had!

Same as the Roman Road course, lovely lay out and design, especially the 12th hole (par 5) as it is mostly downhill and if a tee shot is caught sweet and down the middle, it only needs a short to mid iron to get the ball on the green for an eagle chance, and the views from the 12th green are second-to-none as you can see most of the 2010 course so makes it even more special, and the 12th hole on the Montgomery Course is one of the best holes I have ever played.

Lovely golf course and the pins were put in difficult positions on the greens as they were so undulating and hard to read so would end up in a few 3putts!

Whilst we understand the reason for buggies staying on the cart path as a result of a tragic accident it makes this course in particular extremely hard work.There are long distances between some holes and the ball can be a long way fromthe path. This must be addressed before we are able to book this trip again.

Very long course with long walks between holes. Used a buggy but have to keep on path and always seemed to be miles away from buggy path. Never played a shot on level ground. Greens fast and course in very good condition. I personally did not enjoy the course but lower handicap players might enjoy it.

We were meant to play this course but YGT had cancelled our rounds according to celtic manor pro shop. Our original t times were 0930 on booking confirmation but we got told we couldn’t play until 1500 as no spaces available. A very helpful pro at the clubhouse managed to get us out between a members competition at 12 on the Romain course which we shouldn’t have been playing but was happy to get out at all. I shall never book another trip with YGT again weekend was a disaster to be honest !!!

Absolute joke, got to twenty ten course and they said your t times have been cancelled by YGT. Paid £3300 for ten players and then get told all cancelled, luckily they managed to fit us in last 3 groups.

After playing the 2010 first, the monty wasn’t as picturesque until you got on the back nine But the 12th hole is something else, a golfers dream!!! Some fantastic holes and scenery. Great experience

Some very nice holes on this course that present a real challenge. Quite a hilly course that presents additional challenges to the length of some holes.

Good fun course in great condition. Personally I preferred this to the Montgomery.

An easier course than the Montgomerie for the hard of walking. The fairways were not as wide so with a buggy you should be ok. The course itself was great.

Even with a Buggy, you have to stay on the buggy path, not on the fairways EVER! So the course was difficult to get from on side to the other the fairways were so wide. Lots of hillsides to deal with too. This course is Not for you if your walking is limited even with a Buggy.

An OK course, but some quirky holes which made for course knowledge to get the ball direction right. Quite hilly, so buggy would be handy, but not for ‘cart path only’, so a tiring walk, especially on a warm day.

Played this course last year and the fairways were in better condition than this year. One 4 ball of our group of 8, hired buggies. ONLY when we arrived at the starters hut (about 250 yards from the check in) did we find it was cart path only.😡. It was too late to change to a trolley and we ended up walking further than those with trolleys. After enquiring later, we were told that all 3 courses at this venue are cart path only ALL YEAR. For this reason, we would NEVER revisit this venue.

Don’t even think about walking this …. Especially if it’s the last round of your tour ! Interesting course but a bit too up n down for me personally.. greens were excellent , v tricky

Our favourite course at CM with some spectacular views.. Some tricky holes requiring good course management. Take a buggy as very hilly. If you can only play one course, this is the one, IMO.

A ruined Christmas present for me, a good day for him! Why? I had to have a buggy but these have to stay on the paths. Therefore I was having to walk far more than normal, up and down slopes, across and back on fairways. Thebiggurs were petrol and hard to start. At one point I started going backwards and came very close to anasty accident. When I discussed this adter the rou8, I was told that if I had a medical certificate I could have been given a red flag and driven anywhere. I had one in my golfbag!! A lack of information beforehand spoilt my day. We had been looking forward to playing the course all through Covid. Jack, you arranged everything we asked for, but a disappointing finale for me. The hotel, outstanding. 2010....not again.

As we were new to this course, it would have been good to be informed before the round of the hilly walk. If we had known this, we would have hired buggies. A small point on what was a good day.

Quality from start to finish. For a club of its standard it was also refreshingly friendly, relaxed and not stuffy at all.

This course is tough walk and thats just from hole to hole, some holes have no signage to next tee, bar the cart paths some routes are just there from people walking through and not fit for electric trolleys. This course you benefit from a golf cart to get from hole to hole but being path only they end up slowing the speed of play. Yes it’s has a paid range but again you have no access for a trolly if your already set up.

Course condition again better than the twenty10…the only downside was a lack of stock in the halfway house.

Better greens than the twenty10. Hilly is an understatement, especially as there weee no electric trolleys or buggy’s left, so had to walk with a manual trolley…got the step count up, but am glad I’m fairly fit!

There were lots of pitch marks on the greens, but that’s down to the people using the course and not the greenstaff, but fairways were good and halfway house well stocked

Having played the Montgomery course the previous day, this was a big improvement, nice course with some really nice holes.
