Originally constructed in 1886, the Welcombe Hotel is a magnificent Jacobean-style house whose grandiose character is still very much in evidence.
The façade has not changed, and the oak-panelled lounge and four-poster suites exude extravagant grandeur, but all this is perfectly complemented by the contemporary style of the garden rooms and the spa facility.

The par-70 championship golf course at the Welcombe is widely regarded to be one of the finest layouts in the West Midlands, and has been recognised as such with the award of the European Seniors Tour Ryder Event.
The course is laid out around the imposing structure of the Welcombe hotel, and the designer has made full use of the natural undulations of the land to create a course that will make talented golfers think hard, while also remaining a playable and enjoyable experience for players of all abilities. The remarkable scenery that stretches before all visitors will ensure that a golf break at the Welcombe is a memorable one.
If you have a private function, the Open Championship Suite, based in the clubhouse, can seat up to 120 guests.
The 78 en-suite bedrooms are superbly finished, and are sympathetically decorated and furnished to reflect the traditional style of the hotel itself; some rooms feature original antique pieces, while the suites are perfect for a special occasion, designed around the incredible four-poster beds. The public areas are ideal for a relaxing moment, especially on the luscious sofas that are placed next to the open fires in the lounge.
There are also 7 bright, modern apartments at The Welcombe which are perfect for golfing groups or couples looking for that bit of extra space. The apartments consist of an open-plan living space, fully functional kitchen with an oven, microwave, washing machine, dishwasher, toaster, coffee machine and kettle. Lots of storage and wardrobe space is available plus most offer a spacious shower and separate bath.
The a la carte restaurant serves a mouth-watering menu of English and European cuisine, overlooking the stunning Italian gardens. After golf why not sit back with a drink in the golf bar and what the days sporting action unfold on Sky Sports.
The Welcombe Spa is the perfect place to relax, refresh and reinvigorate. The complex includes a level deck swimming pool with an external vitality pool, heated loungers and foot spas, while the health and beauty treatment rooms are endorsed by the Cabor brand. For the more active visitor, there is a gym with cutting edge technology and an aerobics studio.
On a summer's day, the manicured Italian gardens are a beautiful spot for a stroll, and represent just part of the package that confirms how luxurious a golf and leisure break at the Welcombe can be.

Beautiful hotel, we stayed in the older part, it was lovely but no view other than rooms opposite. However it didn't spoil our stay, the room was clean, well equipped but the bed needed a new mattress, (we did tell the hotel), it was warm, comfortable perfect for one night.

Beautiful hotel, particularly at Christmas. On a golf thing, good selection of lagers and beers. Fantastic food but small portions so you need to eat before if you are a hungry person. We had pizza at midnight as we were all starving. Good size rooms, comfy beds but the bathrooms desperately need replacing. Excellent breakfast. Not really sure what all the fuss is about with the car park barrier and the code, there is nowhere else to go.

Hotel very impressive and in lovey surroundings. Staff in restaurant very efficient. Couple of criticisms with regards to the room, the telephone didn’t work and when we told reception nothing was done, we also had no reception on mobile phones in our room! Felt it could be a little dangerous!

The hotel has a stunning entrance, reception, lounge, staircase and dining room. The rooms that YGT booked for us were all excellent and in the main manor house. It would have been nice to have been provided with some bottled water as the cold tap in the bathroom ran warm all the time and perhaps a fridge/mini bar for a hotel of this standard would have been welcome. Otherwise very good, very comfortable bed. The dinner was perfectly acceptable, a choice of three starters, mains and sweets. Breakfast was a bit disappointing, we sat down to eat at 8.15, so not late, and various things had run out or were not available. The cooked buffet was OK but rather undercooked and only luke warm. But, as value for money overall with the golf break it was very well received. The staff were all very efficient and friendly.

Check in was efficient and friendly. Room was clean and comfortable. The food in the restaurant was very poor - my Sirloin steak was full of gristle and tough. My wife ordered Coq au vin and was served a piece of chicken wrapped in bacon unlike any Coq au vin she had cooked. Breakfast was passable although the juice was watered and weak. Altogether a disappointing result from a Hotel for which we had high hopes.

We played between Christmas and New Year and the course was in good condition given all the rain we have had. Good variety of holes, 4,5,8,15 stood out but we all thought 16 was fabulous. It has a stream running down and across the fairway, similar to the 18th on the Earth course in Dubai. Your third shot is to an elevated two tier green next to the hotel gardens. Definite photo. 17 a lovely short par 4. Our main criticisms were that we played off a lot of temporary winter tee mats but there were no yardages shown which is poor for a hotel course that gets a lot of visitors. Added to this there were no yardage posts anywhere. There were 200, 150 and 100 yard discs in the fairway but they were all covered in mud,no effort had been made to make them visible. I know we live in a scope and gps world but we were a group of 8 golfers and only one of us had any kind of distance device. Call us purists but we had no idea most of the time how far we were from the green. Very poor. The whole car park barrier code and registering your car so as to avoid a fine seemed completely over the top and quite stressful as with the hotel, absolutely nowhere else to go so you couldn’t be a sneaky free parker. On the whole, nice course, worth playing.

Greens were in good condition. Some very good looking holes. A very undulating course that takes its toll on senior golfers without a buggy.

A challenging course with a lot of hills and interesting green positions. The greens were an average speed, which was good, and in a good condition. The 2nd day was easier, knowing the course a little better. We weren't held up at all. The half was hut was open Sunday with a small selection of refreshments but was closed Monday, which wasn't a problem, as it was a quiet day on the course. The clubhouse staff were really good, very helpful and pleasant. The breakfast menu on arrival was ideal and the bar snack on the 2nd day were very good indeed. The Pro and his assistant couldn't have been more helpful. A very enjoyable couple of days bless with good weather!

Really nice course, which everyone in our group (12) enjoyed - interesting mix of holes, the course was in good condition considering the amount of rain in the previous 10 days. The round took four hours 10 mins walking with a trolley. Lunch was really good value for money. Very helpful staff in bar and the pro shop.

Great course, every hole is different. Greens could have been in better condition on some holes. This is the 4th year we have been and it never disappoints.
