Slaley Hall Hotel, Spa & Golf Resort

The accommodation had everything you need, clean rooms, well kept , good food. Only downside was the Brasserie is pretty expensive for snacks. The choice of food for evening wasn't anywhere as good as the main.Main restaurant had really good food and on our package we had good meals, 1 night we both upgraded to steaks and only went £10 over the meal allowance.Good menu, nice wines.

Brilliant experience course was immaculate, buggies bit over priced but that's what you expect with a high end course, plus you need to book I'm advance, facilities are top notch 👌

Another great stay. We love coming here for our golf trip! The staff are always amazing, Molly and her team on an evening, through to Kate and co in the bar. Let down slightly this time by housekeeping, found something in the bedroom belonging to a previous guest! Apart from that, we enjoyed our stay.

I have visited slaley hall on a few occasions and again i wasn't disappointed. Comfortable rooms, good food, polite and friendly staff and very clean. What more can you ask for

Had a 3 night stay with my dad and played a round on each course, and although slightly overpriced we were pretty happy with the trip. Hotel, amenities, staff and golf courses were all good, the only slight complaint we had was the poor selection on the menu and the time it took for the food to come out (not the front of house staffs fault, just more kitchen staff needed)

Overall stay was great - lovely place, 2 great courses, food was good so overall very comfortable. Staff where all friendly BUT message to the Managers - put more staff on the Claret Jug bar!! I don't like LONG waits (in SIGNED queues!!) when buying a drink and/or food when you know how many guests you have coming - sort your staffing levels out!! Besides that, I would go again.

Absolutely brilliant few days. Couldn’t fault the location, hotel and courses. It’s was a shame the weather was so bad on a couple of days but will be back. Excellent value for money.

Very welcoming and helpful staff. All of the rooms we had were very comfortable and the bar and restaurants were very good.

Very satisfied other than a frustratingly slow check in - not enough staff and too many questions. The car park is a long way from reception and rooms. You could drop off baggage but no porters to assist.

Accommodation was excellent with large comfortable rooms. Very clean overall.there were many shortages of food items, no bacon. One soup unavailable ,no fish and chips. No chicken wings all on the same day. Day 2 everything was back on Service in the Claret bar in the evening was very bad. We waited 2 hours for our starter and the whole meal took us 3 hours to finish. We were given a free drink each and the waiting staff were excellent I spoke to the manager about our experience and gathered this wasn't a normal event but it did spoil our whole visit.

It was ok!

On arrival on a Sunday (Father’s Day)the staff appeared under pressure and we had difficulties getting lunch. On speaking to the duty manager, he appreciated our concerns and arranged for delivery of sandwiches on the course and compensated us with an offer of drinks the following evening.Both courses had very good potential but the wet winter and rain while there, showed that areas on the courses had not cut to a standard normal for the time of year making a few areas penal. However, really good value for the standard of hotel and courses.

This was second time here very disappointed as they closed bars down at claret jug at 7 pm we’re pool table was . All we wanted was few pints and games of pool

Very short of staff to cope with amount of guests. Hospitality in general are finding recruiting staff very difficult.

The hotel is survivng on its name alone. It looks tired and old. Much work is needed to update and bring in to 21st century

Hotel is lovely. Rooms are very old fashioned. Food is nice but menus are limited. Breakfast buffet was lovely. Just little things let it down, having to pay for pool table but bar doesn't give cash back. Sky TV the old version ao the picture for football was poor. Again, just dated.

Perfect 24 thirsty and hungry golfers couldn't find fault

Very good value for money, bars and restaurants are good variety. Spa is ok but more importantly golf courses are a good test. Obviously a little bit wet in winter given the rain, but still worth a visit. My second trip already this year and will return in future.

Brilliant, perfect place for a stay. Beautiful rooms, one of the only hotels that I would have taken the bed home we will be back. However for a first time visitor there was a lack of signage to the hotel.

The hotel was excellent in every aspect.

May be just because they are coming out of winter into spring, but the Claret Jug bar had only just opened. Food was okay for evening meal but Aspalls cider was off. Breakfast in restaurant was probably average at best and for a hotel of this size the expectation was for a good one. Be warned, food and drink prices sours the good deal from GN…£40 for 4 x coffees and bacon rolls

We arrived a little early but the reception did not mind and said they had a room ready which was great. Showered and changed we went down to the bar for a bacon sandwich and coffee before our round of golf only to be told the kitchen closed at 11am when it clearly states on the menu in the bar that it shuts at 11:30am. We were at the bar prior to 11am anyway but did not get served for 10 minutes. The room was good warm. The staff very friendly and helpful.

Great weekend of golf, 2 rounds on a quality course in good condition given the rain, hotel was good and rooms sufficient. Evening meal was good and breakfast very good. Great value weekend of golf!

2nd visit in 13 months and the rooms are still tired. Some of the young staff didn’t seem to know what they were doing. On the plus side the food was very good although overpriced if it wasn’t part of your package. £6.30 for a pint of real ale is ridiculous although it does make you drink less! The 2 golf courses were like playing in a bog on the whole and have been ruined by them still allowing buggies on the course. All in all way overpriced for what it was so we will not be returning again.

Fantastic location and staff are very courteous helpful and accommodating would love to return.

We were a group of 16 all senior citizens.The reception staff friendly smiling and helpful.The rooms clean and comfortable.The food excellent with a reasonable choice. The breakfast buffet style with a good standard selection and with attentive staff.

The hotel itself is nice, perhaps needing a little TLC, but that's being picky. Very mixed bag with staff - all very friendly, but highly variable in capability! The bar manager in the Claret Jug was excellent tho hand was managing to hold it all together. Food options in the Claret Jug were limited but we didn't realise we could have taken our dinner allowance into any restaurant. Breakfast was good. Didn't use any of the sap facilities this time, but would definitely return.

We had a few issues with cleaning, the room had hair on the toilet when we went in, we found a ripped pillowcase behind the bedside cabinet when I was looking for a plug and the net curtains had mould over. To make it worse our rooms were not ready. In the restaurant we paid for breakfast on first morning, we were first in at 7.30 am. I was shocked about the cleanliness, tables set but still had crumbs on, floor had food from previous nights dinner. I did raise all these issues with staff, the hotel was fall (united Arab Football team were staying), so they couldn’t move rooms. They said they would change curtains but didn’t and the cleaning in restaurant didn’t change.

Some areas would benefit from a reverb but beds and bedding were good

Hotel was grand, perfect setup for a golf trip. Great location, a couple of decent bars and a decent restaurant for dinner and breakfast.

Hotel was well maintained with great facilities. £28 per person toward food on the DBnB rate and could be used in the Restaurant or Claret Jug Bar/ Lounge. Staff friendly and lots of areas to sit and relax. Whisky Lounge has an extensive selection. All in all great value.

Good accommodation with everything you need on site, Molly who served us at night was a credit to the hotel as she was excellent at her job.

Apart from the single beds being a bit small, the whole experience was great. I was nervous having read the reviews on Google & Trip Advisor however for a golfing trip, perfect place.

Great hotel and great staff but unfortunately spoiled by YourGolfTravel we used as an agent to book our stay. Better booking direct with the hotel, its avoids the errors due to lack of communication by the agent to the hotel and the hassle as a result. Probably get a better deal too and most important get what you booked jn the first place.

Group of 12 ladies on an overnight golf break. Weather was atrocious on the saturday but we took over the games room and had the option of the spa. Could have played golf but thought better to watch the Golf on the Tv and warm up with table tennis and darts. Monday was perfect for playing.

Awesome complex, fantastic facilities and beautiful golf courses

The room was pleasant, beds very comfortable, only issue we had no large bath towels only had towel’s luckily only staying one night. The food choice for the evening meal in the (Claret Jug) bar was very limited as to what was available on the menu not impressed at all with that. Breakfast very good selection and plenty to choose from. I have stayed here before on a similar package albeit a few year ago vast differences to then and now!!

Golf and stay was excellent value for money. the hotel itself though was very over priced for food and drink. Really enjoyable stay and we will be back for sure. A fantastic deal through your golf travel.

The room was clean and comfortable.Twin beds were also comfy if a little on the small side for the larger person.

We enjoyed our stay despite the weather, but it is what it is! Hotel itself was beautiful, staff were very good in particular in the claret jug, and having a restaurant and bar plus the claret jug was great. Room was tired and not very well maintained, beds were comfy though! Would return happily

There was 4 of us, we booked 2 twin rooms. Unfortunately when we arrived we were put in 2 rooms which were family rooms, consisting of 1 double bed and one hard sofa bed. Therefore one of us had a good nighta sleep and the other didn't. Went to use the pool but was informed the jacuzzi wasn't working which was a let down. Food quality was poor. Brown stale lettuce leaves served with steak was not good. Meatball starter was cold. Service wasn't as attentive as could be having worked in restaurants all my life.

The Hotel and setting were excellent. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. The meals were average very much like pub food.

Rooms were excellent, no complaints and staff were polite and friendly. We were, however disappointed with the food on offer for the package we bought.

As ever this trip our third visit was wonderful

Major problems in the hotel on Sunday evening whilst dining in the claret jug restaurant. The starter was 20 minutes late and the main course 90 minutes later (10pm). The main course of beef was poor with no Yorkshire pudding or vegetables being served. I have made an official complaint to the hotel manager (William Johnson) but as yet there has been no response. I am requesting a refund on the cost of the meal.

We had a party of 16 for a two night stay, everyone agreed it was a good venue with very helpful and polite staff apart from one lad in the pro shop who was downright rude, so much so his college came out to find me and apologies for the way he had spoken to me!! Food was ok, Breakfast was fine with a good selection. Dinner got a little confusing as some people had 3 courses some only 1, the £28.00 allowance was applied to all meals, and if you had gone over slightly they charged regardless of savings on other meals, this then became more confusing as some people had left the table when the additional bill came out! not a great system in our opinion, a straight forward £28.00 menus would have been better. Also we were allowed 2 free drinks per person per room which they new nothing about, but we did get them after a little sorting out.

Excellent place to go for a weekend of golf in a large party

The hotel room was very nice and the bed comfortable. The golf courses where exceptional and a joy to play The only criticism that we had was with the restaurant, as the allowance per person was £28, but the quality and potions of the food where a lot to be desired. An example was the steak, which had a lot of fat and gristle, a small amount of rocket salad and about 6-8 chips, no mushrooms or tomatoe, which you usually get with this meale and the it was much of the same with the rest of the selection

Staff were fab, room was a decent standard, breakfast was without a doubt the best meal in my package, with a fairly limited choice for the evening meal in the Claret Jug.

A real curate's egg! Rooms were clean, spacious and well-appointed, but try getting into them! The electronic keys are made of wood and basically they don't work. In a 3 night stay my room mate and I had to go down to Reception 9 times to get replacement keys, and everyone in our party had similar problems. Drinks are expensive, but that's to be expected with a captive audience. Breakfast was very good ~ loads of choice, but the evening meal menus weren't particularly rich in variety or quality. The place itself is a little tired and could benefit from a refurb in places. For the cost and quality of the stay I'd say it was punching a little above its weight.

We had to pay extra for a deluxe room as there was no standard rooms available. It looked exactly like the rooms I’ve stayed in every year so not sure what we got for an extra £40 per night. I’m awaiting a reply from customer services on this point. Drink has increased massively since last year. A small bottle lemon tonic or ginger beer has gone from £2.50 to £4

A very enjoyable stay. Bed very comfortable and rooms spacious. Restaurant menu could have done with a couple more pasta dishes.

The course was immaculate, the hotel lovely food was ok. The only negative was the price to hire a buggy £40 which is far to much! I played 3 rounds I’m glad I took my trolley but I would of carried rather then pay £120 There must of been at least 30 buggy’s at a time not being used, hence the second day very slow play!! Probably the last time at Slayley

Excellent, really enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend to others.

The Hotel was fine. The bacon bap was not. The bacon was burnt and the bap was so small I could have used it as a ball marker on the course.

Good hotel but we had a few problems. Our rooms were in need of an update and the heating system sorted out as they were also cold, unless they are lowering the temperature to due to the fuel price hikes. All of our party had problems with their key cards which involved a very long walk to reception to have them reset on numerous occasions. Bars were fine if a little expensive, the dinner on each day was average bar food. The most disappointing thing was the buffet breakfast which was invariably cold on each morning. It's a shame as the staff were attentive and helpful.I can't comment on the spa facilities as I didn't use them myself but my colleagues did comment on how cold the pool was. Overall the hotel could be very good if they could sort out the small issues.

Everyone looked after us exceptionally well. Beer was priced reasonably with the 10% discount although I believe it depended where you come from.

Room was ok as I upgraded to golf view. Restaurant food not as described on menu and it was like being in a cafe, no ambiance at all. We got ignored at bar when trying to order drinks and the bar was freezing cold. Went to spa on the Sunday no towels available and jacuzzi out of service. Overall very disappointed in experience considering ot was for my partners 60th birthday. Would not recommend.

We were given allocated and accessed to occupied rooms-on the fourth floor . Confusion over party name and part size resulted in embarrassing difficulties at dinner Had to wait behind other at reception with similar difficulties so gave up🤬

It was perfect been to Slaley a few times and never disappointed absolutely great value

Very disappointed with the courses and restaurant. Fairways and greens in poor condition after recent maintenance activity. Green fees did not reflect the poor quality of the putting surfaces. I have played on better winter greens. Fog came in on the second morning but the starter allowed people to tee off in dangerous conditions. He thought that extending starting intervals to 15 minutes would be ok. Visibility was 50-100yards and this decision was very reckless and probably based on trying to keep the course open and avoid reimbursement. Needless to say we packed up an left. Dinner on second night was a disaster , were allocated another late 9pm slot despite having booked more than 2 years ago. We waited and waited only to be told at 945 that they could not supply our dinners as ordered, They scraped together some soup and burgers to try and keep us happy along with a token gesture of waving some drinks costs. All very poor and not adequate recompense for the disappointments. Never ever will I return and my only recommendation for this place to anyone would be to avoid it like the plague. Overall very good but some parts of hotel starting to look dated

On arrival everything went very smoothly. Rooms were allocated everyone made welcome staff were excellent.

Thoroughly enjoyable stay. It was Derek’s 70th birthday and the hotel left a birthday card and chocolates! Lovely touch. All staff very friendly and helpful and made us feel welcome . A special mention to Ross in the bar and also the staff on reception desk.

Lovely rooms but had requested for double beds and not been reserved however staff were very accommodating in changing this. May not have been as lucky if hotel fully booked.

The golf was brilliant. Staff in the bar were ridiculously rude. I ordered a bacon cheeseburger with out salad and was sniggered at for ordering it. Other food took upto 2 hours to arrive and when some of it did was absolutely freezing so had to be sent back. They didn’t have a clue what they were doing

Only comment regards price and quality of dinner options. Plus wine and drinks are too expensive. House red poor too. And why no Rioja? Very popular option but the only one available was £44 per bottle!!

Friendly staff and a well set up experience.

Everything went perfectly

This was our third trip to Slaley Hall and it is an excellent venue for a golf break and in October good value for money. Breakfast especially good. My only gripe would be the cost of drinks especially soft drinks, maybe just the Scotsman in me coming out.

We arrived at 10.30 on Sunday to be told no food until twelve then when food was available they had no bacon the meal in the evening was less than average some of the party had ordered cheese board to be told they have no cheese

Excellent all round, no weaknesses.

Faultless from checking to checking out,every member of staff couldnt have been more polite ,especially our male foreign waiter and all food was excellent ( 4 people agreed ) Will be back.

Staff very friendly and helpful

The golf facilities were great, the rooms were fine but the dinner was completely inadequate. It was a very poor quality three course meal. There was simply not enough food for a golf party and what food there was was very poor quality. For a hotel with this rating it was very poor and all 32 would play the courses again but not stay at the hotel.

We had feature rooms which were very comfortable, good quality beds and bedding, good shower. All the staff were excellent, both at reception and in the restaurant. Despite my previous concerns regarding the menu, the food was very good quality and well cooked and we allo enjoyed it. Wine by the bottle reasonably priced. Excellent breakfast.

Great hotel and great food. Only gripes are that they don't serve any food until midday... they are missing out on serious money as the place is in the middle of nowhere and if you have had a long drive you end up being out there for 4 hours without anything to eat. Courses in great condition for this time of year.

Brilliant place for golf!! The hotel needs a bit TLC in places and the food in the claret jug was alright but nothing special. Good enough for a group of men, but not where id take my wife.

Very good but disappointed with the quality of the food

We had a very warm welcome and excellent surprise to see we had been allocated a junior suite. Bar was okay along with the restaurant. Staff were excellent, however the restaurant did have some shortages on the menu due to outside issues arising from lack of deliveries.

Hotel was clean and rooms were nice staff very pleasant and helpful only downside food in restaurant at night there wasn't a great amount on the menu.

The accommodation is very tired and needs a revamp. Some rooms had showers which did not work properly ( cold water and poor pressure). The majority of the staff need retrained on customer service. The food was below average as mass cooking made it taste like cardboard I’m afraid. I would not rate the hotel 4 stars 3 at the most.

Had a wonderful stay and loved the golf courses. Staff were great - just felt the hotel bar could have done with a little TLC but recognise it has been difficult over the last year for the hospitality industry. Loved the setting and being able to have a drink outside overlooking the golf course

Food, accommodation & facilities good…. Service in bar before and after meal was very poor, waiter and waitress had no manners and served local guests a head of us time after time. Only being able to pick up buggies 1/2 hour before tee time was ridiculous as we needed them to get golf bags from car park to practice facilities at least 1 .5 hours before tee time…. 1/2 hour is no good to anyone.

Never a 4 star, carpets threadbare, cracked tiles on bathroom floor,chipped bath.the hotel access is not the greatest for golf parties.

Staff couldn’t do enough for you any questions you had about the hotel the staff answered them must admit got lost a few times in hotel leisure room pool steam spa etc very clean and staff on hand all the time

Lack of staff in the Claret Jug when we arrived at lunch time. The bar was busy with people wanting food and drink. Only one member of staff behind the bar. When it came to my turn I asked for a drink and the menu for food only to be told they weren’t doing food as he was on his own and that it may be after 2pm and he was closing the bar. He told us to go upstairs. As we walked into the upstairs re was a large queue (all been sent from downstairs). I find it hard to believe that this is a quality hotel which was golf course was full all day and no staff in the bar. Not a good start to our golf break. The rest of the stay was good.

Good hotel badly let down by poor quality table d'hote food for our party . Dull, unimaginative food in small portions which was bland and seemed to be produced as cheaply as possible. Would have been much better if we were offered choices from the Claret Jug menu. Bar itself, drinks and bar staff were good.

Very nice with excellent staff

Not impressed the food was disgusting on the evening meal. The meal was 3 course some of our group only managed to eat 1 or the courses. The food was totally inadequate. When requested replacements or alternatives nothing was available. We had 12 people and only 1 person was able to eat the full menu. Would never go back for a stay it was atrocious.

Lovely comfy beds with nice en-suite

Staff both bar and restaurant were excellent.

The hotel is just a bit dark in the corridors but the room was super comfortable. The food was delicious and staff in the dinning room were all very helpful & friendly. The swimming pool was good, sauna & steam room excellent for relaxing after a game of golf.

We had a very enjoyable stay at Slaley Hall. The rooms were spacious and the staff attentive. Although our golf package was good value the prices in the hotel were expensive. £10 for coffee and bacon sandwich for example. The food in the restaurant for our evening meal was average but the buffet breakfast was great.

Excellent double room with single occupancy overlooking bot golf courses. Both Dinners were excellent with a good choice of meals well presented by the efficient and courteous staff. The hotel facilities included swimming pool and fitness centre and also provided within the hotel grounds an archery; go-cart facilities and for the golfer ; driving range; and putting and chipping facilities everything a family or golfer would require.

Accommodation was good apart from our air conditioning not working! So please check before you unpack. Golf was great courses was challenging. But all had a fab time thanks.

Hotel rooms good. Food was terrible and took over 2 hours for a pizza to arrive. Hotel very poorly run. None of the staff had a clue what to do and were running about like headless chickens. I have had better food on a plane.

Lovely hotel. Bedroom was a good size, quiet and comfortable, with good en suite facilities. Bar area was large with tables spaced quite far apart, which is still reassuring. Range of draught beers was good, with a pleasing range of spirits. Restaurant was large, again with tables well-spaced. Menu was varied and interesting and the food we chose was excellent. We were on a DB&B deal and the dinner allowance was very generous - we didn't use it all. Staff were universally excellent, well-trained and keen to ensure the best service. A really lovely hotel experience.

Room was lovely, very comfy bed toiletries a bit basic. Coffee/tea facilities were also basic, breakfast tea and coffee sachets. Quite a shock to the system as hotel was very busy and not really much social distancing or face masks especially in busy areas. Most staff also chose not to wear face masks which was quite surprising, especially when government are still recommending masks worn in busy areas. Lack of staff and I thin experience of staff was pretty obvious, took us two hours to have our dinner in the restaurant, then I had to go up to ask the waiting staff for our sweets. Tables very slow to be cleared and prepped for next guests, same applied at breakfast. Hardly any visible staff, no bread for toaster, no fried eggs left, no milk for cereal, lots of empty trays. This spoilt the experience, when we came out from breakfast huge queues had formed which might not have happened had tables been promptly cleared and prepped. Beautiful place lots of nice little nooks and crannies and nice seated outdoor areas. Would be a good idea to have a matrede in the dining room to make sure everybody is utilised as efficiently as possible.

Excellent apart from Monday lunch soup was luke warm chips was cold tea for 2 gave us only a half cup each had to ask for another pot. Really disappointed after a superb meal on Sunday night

Beautiful old section with gorgeous terrace. Staff generally good. But... Menu poor and not good value. Cream tea used cream out of squirt can and tiny scones were only good for door stops. Dining room unventlated and staff with no masks. Not covid safe. Many areas not cleaned.

The hotel was average the rooms very dated. We arrived and no one recognised our booking It was booked for 6 not 3 When we registered for our rounds again we were not booked in for both dates. luckily they could fit us in Disappointing

Our full party of 8 golfers were looked after excellently well from start to finish from the staff in the hotel restaurant,pro-shop and reception.

Hotel needs a bit of a spruce up. Small tv in bedroom and cardboard cups. Overwise fine.

The Hotel room was excellent, however the food included in the package was not very good, It was better the year before when we ate in the dinning room.

Allocated room was tired and needs refurbishment. Restaurant is VERY tired ( holes in the carpet) but lovely staff in there.

Accommodation was spacious with modern bathroom facilities.

Rooms decent size with 2 double beds bar food was pritty good great having 2 courses on site overall cant fault tried there best in the current climate would return in the future

Great stay at the hotel only marred by the restriction due to corvid 19 ( no fault of the hotel) the restrictions appeared to be managed well and in good humour, staff did enforce as you would expect but did it with respect to the customers.

Such a shame the place is running short staffed. When you wait 45 minutes between your main course & your desert & the chips were cold. I am not a complainer, I sympathise with the staff, the chips were cold as there was probably no one to bring them out. Just like the deserts would have been, if they weren't deserts! The new thing with Slaley Hall is, If you want fresh towels, toiletries, t bag or coffee you have to ask? As they do not service your room until the "Third" day/night of your stay. Sorry to all the hard working staff, but your employer isnt helping you guys, your jobs or their reputation. As their standards are way down.

In these strange and worrying times the hotel and staff tried very hard to make our stay there as normal and as good as possibly possible. They succeeded quite well.

Got a £99.00 deal with Bed, Breakfast, Evening meal and 2 rounds of golf. This place was amazing and reasonably priced for the few extras we bought. The staff were friendly and helpful and the Hotel was beautiful and very clean. The rooms were spacious and beds were comfy!

The hotel is situated in wonderful countryside and has a range of way marked walks within the estate. Without exception the staff were brilliant and the rooms and facilities are very good. Breakfasts were excellent and we were satisfied with evening meals although not all main courses are substantial but are of good quality.

Hotel was nice and the staff were friendly and attentive. Public areas, bars and restaurants starting to look a bit threadbare in places.

One couple were given a room much inferior to the others & on a different floor. The set menu was not as expected & very disappointing. I have stayed there before and had a very good experience & that is why we recommended this to our friends. Unfortunately we won't be returning. I wouldn't recommend this again. It's a lovely setting but didn't live up to expectations. Vert dissappointed

Friday night went well drinks in the bar before a reasonable meal. Saturday we were asked to pre order our evening meal before going out to golf, this is always a strange thing to do when you’ve just finished breakfast. Snacks in the Claret Jug were expensive (even with the discount card) and not brilliant. We struggled to get pre dinner drinks as the bar was full of wedding guests, the only other bar is the Claret Jug. The evening meal was poor. Again drinks expensive.

After a wet afternoon on the course we had to queue for 20min to get booked in to you rooms only one person on reception. We booked twin rooms and we got double rooms not ideal for four men. The meal was booked for 6.30pm when we sat down we were told that that table was reserved for some one else but after checking it out it was for us seemed to be a bit of a shambles. Not nearly as good a stay as we had two years ago.

Quality of food and service on the 1st evening was very poor, but they redeemed themselves somewhat on the 2nd night. From arrival onwards, staff were helpful and attentive. The rooms were well appointed and comfortable in every way. The facilities catered for everyone's needs and offered lots of variety. The only criticism would be that the furnishings and the food in the Claret Jug, where we ate left a lot to be desired and could easily be brought up to a standard worthy of the rest of the hotel.

Booked 3 weeks prior to trip and requested 2 buggies for both rounds as my father in law has 2 hip replacements and struggles to walk course . Upon arriving at pro shop 45 minutes prior to tee off was told no buggies available as there was a corporate day and I quote “it’s been booked months and there’s nothing I can do” to cut a long story short was told in an abrupt tone that it’s up to my agent to request buggies and they hadn’t and if I wanted to wait until 11:00 am (it was 9:15 am at the time) there might be some available. For a 4 star hotel the staff both in pro shop and clubhouse could do with some customer service training . Hotel, rooms, food and golf courses lovely but staff not great unless your a big corporate booking I guess .

Hotel accommodation and staff service very good - well deserve a 4 star rating and good value for money. Free use of their Spa facilities is a real bonus - best Spa ever used.

We particularly liked the separate snug rooms (between Hadrian's Brasserie and the bar) where you could sit quietly with a drink. We believe a games room somewhere in the hotel would be a good addition with a snooker and/or pool table and a table tennis table perhaps. We found all the food and drink of a high quality, however we would like to see a wider selection of beers available. There was a choice of just 3 lagers and 2 ales across all the restaurants and bars.

Very good, pretty windy, but fair, fast greens.Course was busy and it takes one group to hold everyone else up, unfortunately there was one such group who never knew their level,using scopes to see how far the green was ,wasting time for the group in front to move,when the never had a chance reaching, then coming off the green and walking back to us to retrieve their carts etc

It was blowing a hoolie,(25 mph with gusts up to 43 mph), 2 out of our 3 rounds, very difficult, but on the last day it was calm and the course played very fair. Fast greens.

Same as Priestman, greens very hard so it was very tough to get the ball to stay on the greens. Other than that, we enjoyed it 👍

In my opinion the greens should have been watered as is was very tough to stop the ball on the greens. Apart from that we enjoyed it!

Played 6 rounds last year (3 priestman +3 hunting), however this time our package deal was (5p +1h). While still a fantastic deal 3+3 is so much better just because its different. Also the courses were quiet in the afternoon so its not as if it wasn't available. We were offered the opportunity to switch courses for a £25 charge which we declined as its arguable which is the better course

The course was in excellent condition. Could do with more sand in the bunkers. I also thought that while the 1st cut of rough was 'normal', the 2nd cut was too severe in as much that you couldnt find your ball untill almost standing on it. This could affect pace of play so best keep to the fairway

This is the hardest of the 2 courses but also the most picturesque - we had buggies this day and glad we did. Some tough long holes on this course! Lovely course and harder challenge to most golfers over a (genuine) handicap of 10 et seq. Would love to play when dry, it rained heavily for 2 days before - course was a bit wet but not to ruin a good game so we were just unlucky in that respect. Would definitely go again!

hard but not a "difficult hard" but better than average - good challenge on the "eaiest" of the 2 courses. Some walks between tee to green though. Pity it rained and no buggies but i think the Pro shop needs to be a bit more pro-active and ring or message the Organisers to advise that sort of update so they can advise their parties etc - not have to overhear it at breakfast or specifically go to the Pro shop to find out their decision.

Hunting greens were great. Priestman a little bit worse. Miss the wide fairways on either course and don’t bother looking. Some great holes on both courses. Preferred it to Close House. The lesser course is so much better.

Beautiful course but very wet

A really well planned out course again areas where grass had only just been cut leaving the bill sitting down in clover grass. A very good variation of holes with up hill approach shots and large greens. The greens had tricky pin positions and the greens slightly under developed for the time of year. Another over five hour round, but really good potential and value for money.

A course that has long distances between green and tee. The course had good tees, fairways and greens but the many areas where gras had either only been cut of just off fairways had high ‘lost ball grass’. Because of the green to tee distance, buggies are recommended. Our round was five hours 15 minutes, our first group around 4hrs 50 mins.

To many group close to each other took over 5 hrs .we started as 2 three balls and took over 2 hrs for 7 holes then decided to make 6 ball to see if we wouldn’t get held up but didn’t work very disappointed and won’t be going back

This course held the water slightly better than Hunting but still rubbish for this time of year.

The course should have been shut as it had rained 4 days solid before the golf. Balls were being lost in the fairway and the course took over 5 hours. Buggies were not allowed - not impressed at all, spoilt the golf outing.

Another good laid out course and challenging. However I would have had the course shut!!! Wellie boots were the order of the day. Everywhere has had rain but when you are driving down the fairway you expect to find your ball but they were getting plugged! Very disappointed and I actually had to complain and they agreed. Giving me a voucher for a free round but when you live so far away it wasn’t going to work for us. Advise golfers to check before you book!!!!

Beautiful setting but unfortunately rather wet underfoot but playable.

Die to excessive rain over 2 days the course, especially fairways were very much under water. The course should have been closed. However this was neither my or the club professional's decision.

This is a difficult golf course playing full length in very wet conditions. Course was wetter than the Priestmsn and the green staff had tried to cut very wet fairways. A touch test playing full length with no run

Courses have really suffered this winter and that was obvious with fairways incur due to wet weather and a lot of diesels on the greens. We were lucky in that we got a sunny day and relatively dry course but it was March following wettest winter on record

We will have to play the course again.l have never played a course as wet! Plugged balls on every fairway Wellingtons required we were paddling. Another pair of shoes ruined.

Again the course had suffered because of the weather. It was hard to cut fair ways but we have to remember this is winter golf. I have played these courses a few times before when the weather had not been as bad and they were excellent enjoyed them both. This will not put us off booking again. We all had a great time great venue.

The course has had a hard time this winter with the rain and it was soft. The pro's would not let the buggies out and one of our elder players had to cancel. We can’t complain the decision was correct.

Because of the weather and course condition no buggies were allowed. The course was a little drier than the huntsman’s course but only a little. With the distances between tees quite a walk and up and down some steep hills it was quite a challenge for me in the conditions to finish the round and was very pleased to get off it. Definitely a buggy course

The course was very wet so no buggies were allowed. It was very hard and slippy walking through the wet muddy ground and we lost a few balls which just sunk without trace. The greens stood up to the weather and were very good. It was nothing more than we expected due to the time of year and the current wet weather.

Like the Hunting course it was very wet and like a mud bath on a large amount of the holes. It was far muddier than the Hunting but fortunately we only played it once. As I stated some of the holes shouldn’t have been open and the greenkeepers must be in despair so we all felt sorry for them. After all these years please get some air pumps installed so you can clean your shoes and trolleys of mud!

Played this course twice. It was like a mud bath on some of the holes and large areas should have been roped off or the holes themselves completely shut. Huge ruts on some of the fairways especially in the first cut of rough due to them still allowing buggies when they shouldn’t. Some of my party used them and at £45 each it is just being greedy. On the plus side the greens were in excellent condition despite the very wet course. Have been here 6 times over the years and it is still disappointing to see that they still haven’t installed any shoe and trolley cleaning air pumps hence they were both caked in mud!

I have played this course before off the yellow tees. This time we played off the white tees to make it more difficult. It worked

The Hunting course is a beast. Like the Priestman, the rough was totally out of control but the tee shots were generally easier as the fairways were wider. However, even off yellow, it's a long course, so approach shots were all long for me (I average 200-ish yards off the tee) and the large and interestingly shaped greens are all well guarded by bunkers (with limited sand in them) and water. With hindsight, my course management could have been better and if I played again, I wouldn't go for the green on longer approaches. I'd lay up and rely on my short game as there would be fewer opportunities to either lose balls or compound errors. Again, the tee boxes were surprisingly variable (and hairy!) and patrons clearly didn't believe in raking bunkers or fixing pitch marks, but the course is exceptionally picturesque and that makes up for a lot. A buggy is essential to keep up the pace of play unless you are particularly fit. Worth playing but again, I suspect it would be much easier early in the year before the rough gets out of control. I sometimes think that the owners of these facilities are so focused on hosting pro tournaments that they forget that their bread and butter comes from amateurs. It's frustrating coming in having lost 4, 5 and perhaps 6+ balls, but despite all of that I look forward to playing again and doing better!

Par 72 off yellow, and a course of contrasting halves. Tricky off the tee and poorly kept, out of-control rough that meant if you were offline, the ball was lost - period. My playing partner stopped counting after losing ball number 6. Once we figured that out, we became more cautious of the tee which then made approach to the greens harder - damned if you do and damned if you don't. The second nine was a bit of a hike and it felt like two 9 hole courses tacked together. The Tee boxes were very battered and in places and not always very flat. The greens were fine, but patrons clearly didn't believe in fixing pitch marks. The bunkers were filled with concrete rather than sand (or that's what it felt like). Play was slow and 4 and three-quarter hours for a round felt long, but everyone was clearly looking for balls in the stupidly penal rough, which slowed everything down. I suspect it would be faster-paced early in the year before the green staff lost control of the rough. Regardless of all that, it's an interesting and rewarding course.

Very pretty course bunkers not good but more like your usual club course. Plenty of hazards to make you think but not impossible. Could do with a toilet on the course because you don’t go near the hotel.

We had 2 rounds of golf in this course, first late morning and we were behind society’s, 5 hour round. Weather was great so we could enjoy the views. 2nd was at 9.50 out with 2 balls and a 3 ball in front, 31/2 hours, that was waiting a few times. If you are only a 2 ball go early.

You can tell this course is the principle Buggies still the best option but at £45 per round for a standard buggy is very steep

We played this course twice and second time it played better tee bins had been emptied and semi rough trimmed. Unless you are quite fit it pays to hire a buggy

Really picturesque course. Wider fairways to find and although more bunkers to contend with we lost less balls. Really enjoyed this course. Both are up and down hill and we walked. I’d suggest buggies if your not fit.

Beautiful course and well maintained. Views from the high points fantastic. I’d say a little unforgiving for our level of golf ( high handicap) Lots of water and rough which would be ideal for the better golfers ( challenging) but cost us lots of lost balls 🤣🤣

Good mixture of difficult, easy holes, thick rough meant it was a lost ball if wayward, course holes were all mixed up going by golf GPS as it was picking up the wrong holes on both course's.

Really enjoyable round even though we didn't play at our best. Greens like yesterday firm and fast.

Book round yourself not through agent esp not YourGolfTravel as although you pay 6 months upfront, they cant honour the t times requested and only confirm it a couple a weeks before to see what is left. I guess they get a better deal and make more profit at expense of the customer. We spoke to staff and said they were inundated with issues from YourGolfTravel in particular.

The Priestman course which was great and very playable for a group of mixed handicap golfers. Probably should have hired buggies as the course was long. Everyone else was in buggies so there was a feeling of having to play a bit quicker than walking allowed

Both golf courses were good but won’t be going back. Hotel was overpriced and £45 for a golf buggy is a disgrace.

Better of the 2 courses. Greens and fairways were very good.

The course was even more wet than the other one. I realise that they had had some rain before, but the course was a bog. Luckily the weather was kind to us apart from one really heavy downpour. Until the course dried out properly, I would recommend playing the courses.

Greens and fairways pretty good but the rough and surroundings area were soaking wet . That bad that I you hit your balls in these areas, it would plug , resulting in you losing your ball .

Went to hire a buggy but tild we couldn't hire one due to ground being to wet and hilly for buggy to go up ,played course and it was in same condition as hunting course which allowed you on with buggy not that happy as back nine very hilly if playing GET A BUGGY you won't regret it

Golf was a slog from first hole due to ground being so wet and boggy continued throughout round

We were supposed to play this sunday but when we got there they had swapped days.nothing wrong with the course but there was 3 4balls out before us and they were drunk it took us 6.30 hrs to play this course was not a nice day for a game standing about all day.we were supposed to have tea at 7 we were still on the courses due to slow play.got tea at 9

Very wet in places so we couldn’t get to use buggies but it was a good day so just walked.very wet in places but nvr really affected the golf.greens were amazing

The weather was bad, but that can’t be helped as it made the course extremely wet and boggy! Greens were in good condition despite some people still not repairing pitch marks! Tee boxes could have been better, but overall a good course

This course also suffers from poor drainage but to a lesser extent than the Hunting.

This course suffers from poor drainage, which was particularly bad on the first few holes. All of our party lost balls due to plugging on the fairways. By the end of the round we were absolutely filthy. This was unfortunate as the course is nice but beware if playing in damp conditions.

better condition than the priestman not quite so wet greens had been hollow tined but still run true maybe should have played from mats on the fairways

Fantastic condition for winter golf. Interesting and varied course. Weather helped make it an enjoyable game.

For winter golf the course is in excellent condition. The Claret Jug is closed over the winter but conservatory bar had good atmosphere.

Weather let us down here. Didn't get to see the course because of the rain and fog. We played 9 holes and then couldn't carry om cos weather ao bad. The staff were great they offered us the chance to play the other 9 the next morning which we were extremely grateful for.

The course was very nice. The pros and the staff who worked there were fantastic. Weather let us down unfortunately which obviously is out of their control. Can't praise the staff at the golf side enough.

Stuck behind 2 four balls, difficult conditions due to wind, tees rather poor. Overall a good experience.

End of season, course was a little tired. Greens were quick but true.

Course was exceptional. Round was quick as we rented buggies as a group. Course was harder than the Priestman but really enjoyable

The course was in beautiful condition, but the greens were fast and tricky. Not a flat put to be found. The course was easier than the Hunting in relative terms.

It’s a tough course but enjoyed playing it. There were no balls available at the driving range so myself and my party were reduced to collecting them ourselves. Once again the slow play kept us on the course for more than five hours. Frustrating!

Not a bad second course to be honest. It is not in as good a condition as the Hunting course but a decent second course.

We found the rough not quite as bad as the Priestman course, not sure if that's because the pros play this one it seems they cut the rough back more? very enjoyable with some tricky holes.

If your ball went in the rough you generally lost it, but we did find others. No place for a learner golfer! as it really slows the round looking for balls on every hole. Other than the very thick rough the course was really good. I rated this course hard due to the rough. I'm an 11.3 Handicap.

A really nice course, not in as pristine condition as the Hunting, but a very playable, fairly hilly course, (take electric trolley) greens were same pace as hunting course, plenty of water to trip up a wayward shot, a great test for the average golfer.

The course was in pristine condition, but both the European and Asian tour were there only a few weeks ago, so I expected nothing less, a challenging course, but very pleasing on the eye, suits a lefty in my opinion, greens ran true, but a little slower that my normal course, I suspect if rolled for the weekend comp they would be pretty quick.

Simply superb! Immaculately maintained and a fantastic challenge for golfers of any ability. The placement of the bunkers around the greens was frustratingly good! Every shot had to be planned and getting above the hole on the greens meant that line and pace were absolutely crucial if you didn't want an even longer uphill putt coming back! A definite favourite of mine and a definite recommendation for anyone who loves their golf.

Tee to green was absolutely fine, so long as you stayed on the fairway. Any slight deviation from that landed you in knee-to-waist-high grass that made it virtually impossible to find your ball, hence the slow rounds. Tees were ropey in parts ~ not as well-maintained as the Hunting course, but the greens were excellent ~ fast and receptive.

Green had a lot of work done on them and took away some of the enjoyment. The main issue was 8 min tee times causing rounds of well over 5 hours.

Great course, a true championship course and a great layout

Not as good as The Hunting. Greens had been top dressed and tees showed signs of recent lack of rain. That said it presents a good challenge with great views.

The Hunting was in excellent condition and proved a difficult but enjoyable experience. We will return next year to face the challenge it presents.

This golf course was 1st class can't speak highly enough about it

The course was 1st class but my only complaint was the rough it all looks the same a few marker poles would at least give you a chance to find you ball

Probably the best golf course I’ve played. In beautiful condition since Asian tour last month.

This is about the same level of hardness as the Hunting course nowhere near as manicured but our starter did say a lot of attention had been put on the Hunting due to the tour events being played there of late. Just as good a course if they put the same attention to detail into it tho.

Beautiful course and we'll manicured. Greens were excellent.the rough was extremely difficult to play out of so you need to be hitting a straight ball or its lost or unplayable. Would definitely play here again.

It rained again! It’s always a thrill playing The Hunting. Buggies are expensive though.

Unfortunately it rained and there were no shelters. It’s a long track off the yellow tees.

This course was much harder for all members of my party. Signage could have been much better, the bunkers were very bare but it was a very well kaid out course.

Although playing for the first time, the course layout & signage was very good.

Course either over subscribed or very slow play, it took us 4 hours for 12 holes, waited everywhere and eventually gave up. Very frustrating and an expensive 12 holes!

Great golf course which is a true test to all handicaps. Fantastic layout which has matured brilliantly since our previous visit many years ago. Would have given 5 stars for everything if the bunkers had been in decent condition.

Great layout which is less difficult than the Hunting, but more difficult than your usual resort course. In great condition for the time of year , the only downside was the poor bunkers.

Highly enjoyable course. According to our group of 12. Ranging from 22 to 3 handicap. The first time playing this course it wasn’t to good but they cut everything during our stay and it played great the second time round.

Storm and weather damages were very apparent.As course was busy the opted for a shotgun start (our party not involved which didn’t go well No buggies available due to ice and snow on previous couple of days.Clubhouse said they would have offer to cancel our had they our contact information but couldn’t speak for accommodation 🤬

Challenging course for the majority of the group. Good directions from hole to hole. Welcoming fact was booking buggies for the course as it would have been exhausting for a few of the griup

Excellent course, with some amazing views from the 16th tee. Best advice would be to make sure you hire a buggy if possible as walking round or carrying your bag will be an experience your body will never forget!!

The best course and the hardest course I have ever played but thoughly enjoyed the experience. I will be coming back again for another round in the not to distant future.

Greens were poor, understandable that it was the start of the year however no mention prior to it that they would be covered in sand.

Amazing course with some fantastic holes. Greens were recently done and driving range and buggies, due to the time of year, weren’t in use so that is why the facilities and greens conditions score was low.

Beautiful course and very pretty. Unfortunately due to three days of continuous rain it was rather wet and muddy. Most bunkers full of water. Not sure course should of been open? We will definitely be back hopefully when dryer conditions.

Definitely recommend electric carts as course hilly and very deep rough if ball not kept on fairways. Bunkers not raked.

Had requested buggies so did not take own electric carts. On arrival no buggies were allowed due to wet weather earlier in the week. Should have been advised by booking agent from Your golf travel. Also all electric carts are sold off so only pull carts available - not good when one guest has Parkinson’s and other player has other health issues. Made playing the course extremely difficult . Again staff very helpful and apologetic

The course was busy when we played - early Sunday afternoon and there was a bit of waiting around, seemed to be a lot of 4 balls. Fortunately weather was fine so not a great hardship. There had been very heavy rain the week before and fairways were bit heavy.

We all had an enjoyable day, the layout was undulating a quite interesting.

Unfortunately ,a very busy day but the course itself was in great condition for the time of yr,especially the greens which were surprisingly good Very enjoyable !

Played this course sat and Sunday due to no availability on Saturday for Hunting course. Greens superb, fairways some a little damp hey but that’s golf was terrific.

Much better experience today and the better course. A more sheltered course than the Priestman and prettier too, although both courses are very scenic. Loved the par 3 over the lake! We were a group of 6 lady golfers, with handicaps in the early 20's. We found the course challenging, interesting and fun. Really enjoyed our stay. Would like to reiterate how good the hotel staff were.

Unfortunately our experience was marred by very slow play on this course. We had to wait on every single tee!! It was a cool windy day so it did detract from the golf and we finished in virtual darkness. Our belief was there were too many people out on the course, going out at 8 min intervals. Must be difficult tryng to squeeze everyone in but maybe they need to reduce the numbers slightly after a certain time in the afternoon?

Very slow play. Waiting on every tee box for up to 10 mins and started the round 20mins late waiting to get started. Very difficult to get into the game, but the actual course was faultless and in brilliant condition. Some tough greens!!

Different to the hunting course with more hills to negotiate. But the greens and fairways were in good condition. Spectacular views looking towards Scotland. Easier than the hunting course but again beware of the rough.

a tough course in a 30 mph wind rough was not nice at all if ball went into rough you were very lucky to find it could do with being cut back quite a bit

Found the course difficult compared to Hunting. Probably would have had a better experience if we had played it before and knew the layout. Definitely need to take care with shots as there are lots of hazards to contend with.

This course is hard you have to read the maps on the tee as there is hidden bunkers and dykes greens are very large and fast not a flat green on this course which makes it a challenge over all very nice place to play

If you walk it’s quite tuff going but second time on course with buggy’s a lot quicker and faster lovely course
