Golf Courses at Sandford Springs Golf Club

Sandford Springs Golf Club

Sandford Springs Golf Club makes great use of its enviable location to offer a trio of superb 9-hole courses – The Park, The Wood and The Lakes – all are distinctly different and provide great enjoyment.

Located between Basingstoke and Newbury, the course was laid out by Hawtree & Son (founder members of the British Institute of Golf Course Architects). The original 18-hole were officially opened by Sir Nick Faldo and Bernard Gallagher OBE in 1989, the final 9-holes were finished in the summer of 1991.

The signature hole is the 9th hole on The Park Course – a short downhill par-4 which requires an accurate long iron from the tee followed by a good approach to a putting surface which is guarded by two lakes. However it is possible for the long hitters to carry the 270 yards over water!

The Woods Course

With its mature trees creating a naturally scuplted challenge, accuracy is required to negotiate the avenues of The Woods, arguably the most difficult of Sandford Springs' three nines.

The Park Course

Strategy, placement and ball-striking are all examined fully on the Park, which, upon climbing to its highest levels, is commonly buffeted by strong prevailing winds that help make it more of a links test.

The Lakes Course

The water is everywhere at The Lakes! The opening four holes provide a tough start to any round - be it your initial induction or when commencing the back nine.

Great venue, well looked after, the long wet season meant the courses were a bit boggy in places but playable, greens had not suffered. Overall not a bad weekend at all.

Three excellent 9 holes courses. Hotel comfortable and food a good standard. Another great trip arranged by YGT

Excellent service, superb staff and very good rooms, the only negative point being the width of the single beds (narrow for most reasonably built men). The breakfast was very good and the evening meals, whilst very well presented, were very limited in choice but overall, my group was very impressed.

Top quality hotel with large and quiet rooms. The food was also to a high standard.

Clean large comfortable rooms. Hotel would have scored five stars if after golf facilities were more available. Only one small snooker/pool table to entertain our group throughout the evenings. Swimming pool would be a great investment for this venue.

Spacious room with a large bath/shower room. Dinner at the clubhouse was excellent and the prices of drinks were reasonable

The hotel upgraded me and my room mate to a suite - always the best way to treat the organiser! This was luxurious, and feedback from others in our group was also very good. Very pleasant bar area with good value food.

Not too crowded. Wet under foot but still playable. Open enough for a miss hit ball

All three 9’s were in great condition. Greens were very good. Courses a reasonable test.

We played three rounds at the end of the wettest October known but were lucky enough to have selected three dry (but cold) days! The biggest problem for us was the amount of leaves on the first and second cut, which made finding balls quite frequently very difficult but we fully appreciated that 'leaves' can always be a nuisance this time of year. However, the ground-staff's use of a blower could have made things better, but there was no evidence of use. The greens were good, giving respect to previous weather conditions - the course consisting mainly of very long par four's which played impossibly long. The 'Park' nine attracted some criticism for being wide, somewhat bland and generally unexciting to play but overall and with due allowance for the time of year, it was an agreeable experience to play.

Despite the amount of rain in previous days, indeed weeks, the course was in superb condition and a credit to the ground staff. We were lucky to have 3 mostly dry days.

Beautiful laid out three nine courses, the Parks, Woods and Lakes. We found the Parks the easier of the three nines, and the Woods the hardest, not as much water on the Lakes as we thought there would be. Greens on all three courses were superb, ultra fast and true. Fairways and tees also excellect. All my group would definitely go back to Sandford Springs to play, as we all thought this was one of the best courses we have played.

Three very different 9 hole courses each having some interesting holes. Our group of 4 all enjoyed playing the various combinations and are planning to return to Sandford Springs soon.

Three nines. All very different but all a good challenge. Greens good as coincided with club champs. Excellent reception in pro shop. Staff friendly. Not too busy. Everyone wanted to return.

With 3 different start points you don't get stuck behind others for long, and vice versa. Some tricky holes but course isn't massively long. Greens in excellent condition.

being 3 nine holes there were some hold ups going from 9 to 10 but on the whole the staff did their best to keep things moving. we thought the greens were good and fast but could use some extra water in the current weather.

The courses are well kept = lovely greens, if a bit fast, and beautiful flowers around the tees. Lovely wide fairways but some well placed bunkers. Well organised with a starter to see you all off and a halfway house. Will definitely return.
