As part of Sandwich Bay’s legendary triad of Open Championship hosts, together with Royal St George’s and Royal Cinque Ports, Prince’s Golf Club is a classic seaside layout that remains at the heart of British golfing history. Prince’s remains somewhat of a hidden gem but it is undoubtedly one of England’s finest courses, the newly refurbished Himalaya's 9 and short game area complete the golfing experience.

Found in Sandwich, nestled among the striking sand dunes of Kent’s east coast, Prince's is an excellent option for UK golfers looking to play some true championship golf. The Lodge at Prince's Golf Club provides top-quality accommodation for those staying nearby and is the hotel of choice for golfers taking on all three of the Open hosts at Sandwich Bay.

Golf Courses at Prince's Golf Club

Prince's Golf Club is a rare golf links gem with three loops of nine holes. The Shore, Dunes and Himalayas courses provide a memorable golf trip experience that sits proudly within the Top 100 Golf Courses in England.

As a past host of not only The Open Championship but also of numerous key professional events and most recently as co-host of The Amateur Championship in 2017 and 2013, Prince's Golf Club is a course that can provide a mighty challenge for the very best golfers, whilst providing a playable test off the yellows for the many who visit for a golf break in Kent each year.

Henry Cotton and Gene Sarazen are not only among the game’s greatest names, but are also at the head of the lengthy line of Prince’s admirers; among the accolades these golfing legends bestowed were “the greatest links course” and “Britain’s finest course”.

The layout itself is a classic seaside course in character, reflecting the inherent features of the local terrain. The humps, bumps and hollows created by the Kent coastline’s myriad of sand dunes are heaven-sent for golf, and course architect Charles Hutchings (1902 Amateur Champion) took full advantage.

Prince’s, like its visiting golfers, is always at the mercy of the elements, and the character of the golf course can alter dramatically with the wind. Rugged and unpretentious, Prince’s is pure links golf, and is without doubt one of the country’s brightest gems.

Prince's Golf Club is ranked as one of the best courses in London and the South East

The hotel was great for what we needed. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooms were spacious and had places for your golf bag. The location was great for us being right next to Royal St George and Prince's. We had breakfast and dinner in the hotel restaurant both days. The food was of a very good standard. If you did want use of a gym or pool then you had to travel to the local sports club, but we never bothered. Lovely views of both golf clubs and the beach.

We were upgraded from a normal room to a suite overlooking the 5th green! We had told them in advance we would be taking our dog. They had very kindly left a dog bed, blanket, bowl, ball and treats in the room for her. The room was very stylish, comfortable and roomy.

It was a great time. Quite windy, but that's part of the experience. I think the one drawback was the unfortunate amount of course construction going on.

From start to finish our experience was excellent. The staff were friendly and helpful. The greens and most fairways were also in great condition considering the storms and upgrade course work going on. My one moan would be the pace of play, which stretched to 4 and a half hours. Will definitely visit again.

Had a fabulous time playing on carpet like fairways,no mud and didnt have to carry the bag. Staff were friendly, they even offered for us to play few extra holes next day as we were late getting there but 18 holes is more than enough. Were v lucky with weather as there was a light wind only A memorable time

I can’t give a full a account of the round as we did not finish the round Because of the dark ,we had an hour an fifteen minutes delay because of frost so by very careful if you book this course in the winter because they won’t let you out if there’s any frost of any description and they won’t offer and vouchers beware

The opening downwind holes can lull you into thinking it is going to be a walk in the park. Then you head into the prevailing wind and get your money's worth of golf! Nice variation of holes from Dunes to Himalayas, would have to play a few more times to see which I really prefer. Bunkers were fun to play out of, greens were slow compared to other courses we played but ran true. Staff in pro shop and restaurant very friendly and helpful. Look forward to returning.

Having seen the weather forecast for the weekend, thunder, lightning and strong winds (55mph). We tried to move the date but we were told only if lightning was around would that be considered. Thankfully the thunder and lightning did not appear but the wind was 50mph plus. It was totally ridiculous. You couldn’t keep the ball in play, even aiming 50 yds right would see your ball disappearing into the rough on the left. And putting was a joke, if you didn’t hit the hole you were off the green the other side. I even took about 5 minutes to get my ball to stay on the tee on the last raised teeing ground. Trollies were blown over on a regular basis, how we didn’t damage the batteries with them being ripped out is beyond me. In short it was one of the worst golfing experiences we’ve had. Princes were sympathetic (they had cancelled their members competition) but said because we had booked through you they were unable to give us free return voucher. Our feeling is it’s not worth risking £105 each to play there when there’s the fair chance of bad weather even in August.

Lovely links course. didn't get to play the Himalayas 9 but the Shore and Dunes were great. You could find your ball in the rough, but there wasn't much you could do apart from chip out at times. The greens and fairways were in beautiful condition. If you miss hit the green there was a good chance it would roll off down the side. A good test in the wind.

Three different 9’s. we played 18 on day one, 36 day 2 and 18 on day 3. If you like links courses then this is the place to play. The re-vamped Himalayas 9 was probably the most interesting and challenging and the Shore probably the easiest although not that easy! We both thoroughly enjoyed all the rounds. They allow 2 hours per 9 holes which is basically a 4 ball pace so if you are a 2 ball there will be some waiting involved which is fine, just relax and enjoy the experience.

We played in March and the weather was cloudy both days with Saturday being very cold and having to wear multiple clothing & knitted hats to keep warm. The course played ok but I thought the fairways were not at their best & the greens could have been better for such a course as Princes. I put it down to both being tined earlier on over the winter. For the average golfer the 3 course of 9 holes play hard with unforgiving deep pot bunkers - go in a few of theses and it will more than likely ruin your score, as it's difficult, sometimes, to get out of them. But overall there great to play, but not in cold windy conditions, better to play in warm conditions as the sea winds cut through you. I'd recommend a weekend break here, with overnight stay, for a group of golfers looking who enjoy golfing challenge with very good facilities attached.
