Just south of the cosmopolitan city of Valencia, hugging the Mediterranean coastline, is the Albufera Nature Reserve, a rugged wilderness that hosts a myriad of species. 0800 043 6644When it opened to a fanfare in 1968, El Saler was widely acclaimed as the number one course in continental Europe, and while it may have been succeeded by the likes of Valderrama, Les Bordes and Sotogrande, it remains firmly entrenched in the top 10. This is primarily due to Arana's masterful manipulation of the amazing Albufera landscape; El Saler is carved through avenues of umbrella pines, before opening out between stunning sand dunes.
As such, it is difficult to generalise on El Saler's character, or to pigeon-hole it in the links, woodland or parkland categories. What is for sure is that El Saler is an amazing golf course with few rivals in Europe that can match its stunning natural beauty.

The food was not ekselent and you had to wait a while. Brekfast was verry good and and had it all

The layout is very good indeed. The bunkering is fierce. The fairways were soft, with no run, and so the course played very long. There was very little semi-rough, but there was lots of scrub just beyond it, with heavy rough grasses and weeds along with ground level pines. So 'not straight' usually meant lost ball! Played twice, 5 hours 20 minutes first time following a very slow competition group; much more enjoyable 4 hours 30 minutes second time. Need to pre-book buggies.
