Golf Courses at Oulton Hall Hotel, Spa & Golf Resort

Calverly Course

As you would expect, Thomas's layout takes in the natural undulations of the land, but he has used the inherent features of the landscape to create hazards. The greens are very subtle, a feature of the designer's ability to create a good challenge, whilst retaining the course's playability for golfers of all standards.

Dave Thomas has created many great parkland courses in the UK with The Belfry's Brabazon Course being the most notable one. Expect plenty of undulations and an emphasis on course management to play to your handicap on The Calverly Course at Oulton Hall.

Hall Course

Adding to Oulton's golfing repertoire is the 9-hole Hall course, which may not be long, but it will be an enjoyable experience for all those who visit on a golf break.

The investment programme has encompassed the clubhouse, which is now a superb two-storey facility with a restaurant and excellent corporate banqueting capabilities.

Popular with beginners and experienced golfers alike, this is well-recommended as a warm up or extension of your round at Oulton Hall.

Accommodation at Oulton Hall Hotel, Spa & Golf Resort

Oulton Hall is the only 5* golf resort in the north of England, and is currently benefitting from a £7.5 million investment programme. This will only serve to confirm the quality on offer at Oulton Hall, whose Grade II listed mansion is a truly stunning construction.

It has been sympathetically converted to boast 152 guest rooms, including 12 deluxe, and 7 suites. The building itself may be traditional, but the fittings and furnishings of the bedrooms are contemporary, ensuring that visitors receive the best of both worlds.

The surrounding gardens are expertly trimmed and manicured, testament to the attention to detail that allows Oulton Hall to stand apart as a destination for a golf break in the north.

Food & Drink

The excellent Brontë Restaurant has been recognised with an AA Rosette, and serves superb French and English cuisine.

The Blayds Restaurant offers diners something a little more informal throughout the day.

Leisure Facilities

The newly refurbished leisure complex features a sublime swimming pool, a steam room, sauna, gymnasium and aerobics studio. For something a little more sedate, there are a number of health and beauty treatments on offer.

Lovely, stylish, comfortable hotel. We felt we had a very good deal by taking a “Sunday driver” and thoroughly enjoyed our mini-break. The breakfast was wonderful and all the staff very pleasant and helpful.

Rooms excellent large and airy very clean, staff very good, food first class, drinks a little pricey.Golf course mmmmm,a few of the tee boxes were a disgrace, greens could hav been better, bunkers, they were something else.... It could be an exception course, where we're the green keepers????. Other than that we all agreed it was a very good weekend.

The course was fine holes 1 to 18 ,19 to 27 not so good .The staff at the clubhouse were very rude and miserable for the 2 days we were there ,the pro was a nice chap very helpful. The staff at the hotel were nice and the rooms were clean and comfortable, the food was very good in the hotel and the clubhouse it was just the staff in the clubhouse which got everyone's back up from the first moment we set foot in the place.

When we booked in we were told there was a £10 surcharge for eating in the hotel restaurant rather than in the club house for our evening meal. The staff told us this was a condition in the small print. However when I retrieved the email no mention of this could I find. Whereas eating in the clubhouse is fine for a group of men etc , we were a group of 4 mixed couples . We managed to get it rescindedbut thought you should know for future reference . We discussed this as a group and decided this condition might prevent us booking oulton hall again as a future venue. However we enjoyed it this time.

Hotel in parts is fantastic with good leisure facilities, but let down by tiredness of carpets, bathrooms new staff with limited training and poor restaurant service. No gin glasses available on 2 consecutive nights in bar - drinks were served in 2 half pint mugs !! With drinks costing over £10 each this is not acceptable for a hotel of this standing.

Sunday was slow because there were a lot of 4 balls playing but Monday was quieter and we went round fairly quickly. The course reflected the amount of use on it and there were 27 holes to play round. Some of the holes were fairly ordinary and a few were challenging and interesting. We would go again!

Tees and greens were poor the rough was quite severe

Tees in poor condition and non existant 1st cut rough - if your ball was a couple of feet off the fairway you were struggling to find it. Greens in good condition, but no semi rough meant that play was very slow with lots of waiting for players to find balls. Better course management required. Allow at least 4.5 hours for a round !

Sunday was a disgrace. Nearly 5 hours to play 12 holes .we had enough and walked off .we were told yourgolftravel messed tee off time up .my email clearly stated 2pm tee off .they said we were booked in for 12pm .and this caused problem. Really annoying I had my relatives from Australia with me .although when we started our round they said we were 2pm tee off. Only when I complained later in day did they say yourgolftravel was at fault. Very disappointing and no apology.
