The golf course at Murcar Links was founded in 1909 by the then golf professional at nearby Royal Aberdeen, and was later refined by the prodigious James Braid. The links land is punctuated with gorse, whins and devilish bunkers, and the winds that whips off the North Sea certainly determines the character of the layout.

0800 043 6644At 6,300 yards, Murcar is relatively short by modern standards, but that does not detract from the golfing experience. The fairways are unusually tight, demanding premium accuracy to find the correct position, and even then, the cruel humps and hollows can throw the ball off into some awkward positions.
Cut between dunes and streams, and bordered by heather, gorse and brutal rough, Murcar is as tricky as it is beautiful, and should certainly be part of any good Aberdeen golf tour.
