Castro Marim occupies an elevated position, with magnificent views to the north, towards the ridge of hills which separates the Algarve from the province of the Alentejo. To the east, the mighty Guadiana forms the border with neighboring Spain, while the shimmering Atlantic may be seen to the south.

Castro Marim consists of three nine hole loops – designed by Terry Murray. ‘The Grouse’, ‘The Atlantic’ and ‘The Guadiana’, provide golfers with the enviable choice of playing either of two,18-hole combinations.
All three nine’s share the same, basic characteristics, dictated by the terrain they occupy, epitomizing the often-quoted description:- “following the contours of the land”. The Guadiana and Atlântico courses are the most mature of the three courses, with attractive pine trees lining the fairways. The courses are teeming with wildlife, especially partridge in the winter months. Fast and true greens, several of them elevated and protected by bunkers, inviting elevated tees and dogleg fairways carved out of canyons are features of the courses.
‘The Grouse’ is the newest of the three nine holes with the more open far-reaching inland hill views. With less trees lining the fairways, it bring with it a greater sense of space. Here fairways are more generous and the greens markedly larger, important contributing factors to a greater sense of freedom when teeing off.
During your next golf escape in the charming Algarve, be sure to visit the stunning Castro Marim Golf & Country Club.

Again the same problem of 4 balls cutting in on the 10th which delayed us and the knock on effect was that we only got to play 14 holes because of the torrential rain. To say that we were disappointed is an understatement.

A very unfair course. More typical of courses you play in parts of Spain. Par 5’s that you can’t see where your going crammed into space that’s not suitable for a par 5. I wouldn’t recommend this course lots of blind shots and very hilly. No buggies available which is unfair as the course is not easily walkable. The clubhouse and facilities and staff were superb but in my opinion (4 handicap) to be avoided.

Interesting golf course. Would certainly recommend a buggy, our group walked, heavy trolleys and very up hill and down dale and often difficult to work out where we were going, even from the centre of some fairways. 2 of the group enjoyed the "quirkiness" but not for me I'm afraid. Great views however.
