Carya Golf Club

Perched on the rolling sand hills of Belek's Mediterranean coast, Carya Golf Club brings a slice of British heathland to Turkey. Think pine and eucalyptus framing the lines off the tee, flashes of heather around the edges and a par-72 layout that asks you to plot your way round rather than simply lash driver all day.

Opened in November 2008, Carya quickly became one of the courses everyone talks about in the region, often ranked among Turkey's best. It's also had its moment on the big stage, hosting the European Tour's Turkish Airlines Open from 2016, with Justin Rose lifting the trophy here in 2017. If your group likes ticking off Tour venues, this one is an easy win for a Belek itinerary.

The back tees stretch to 7,186 yards, but it's not a brute for the sake of it. With five tee options per hole, you can dial in the challenge to suit the mix of handicaps in your fourball or society trip.

And then there's the party trick: when the sun drops, the full 18 holes can be played under floodlights. It's a genuinely different experience and ideal if you want to squeeze more golf into a short break. Who is this for? Golfers heading to Belek who want a headline course, Tour pedigree and the option of an evening round under lights.

Who is it best for? Mixed-ability groups (thanks to the tee options) and confident players who enjoy strategic positioning and heathland-style visuals.

Carya Golf Club

Carya sits on a distinct sand ridge, routed through mature woodland with heather-edged corridors that feel closer to Surrey than the Turkish coast. From the tips it's a proper championship test at 7,186 yards, but the multiple tees mean you can make it fun rather than punishing, especially on a week where you're playing several rounds.

The course rewards sensible decisions. The best angle into greens matters, and you'll score better by picking targets and shaping shots than by trying to overpower every hole. Bunkering is there to catch the greedy line, while the framing from the trees keeps you honest from the tee. The routing makes full use of the natural contours, threading through mature woodland and opening up to elevated tee shots that demand accuracy and local knowledge.

Since its unveiling in November 2008, Carya has established itself as one of the very best courses in Turkey, and is highly recommended for any visiting golf holiday group. The design echoes the great heathland courses of Britain, with firm, fast-running fairways and an emphasis on positioning over power.

The standout extra is still the floodlighting. If your group's the type to finish a late lunch, roll straight to the first tee and keep going, Carya makes it possible to play a full 18 holes after dark. It's not a gimmick either, it's a proper championship course experience, just at a time of day you don't normally get. If you're the sort who'd happily squeeze 27 holes into a day, the floodlights here are dangerously tempting.

Carya was a great round and the most premium of the courses we played. It was however twice as much as the rest of the rounds we played elsewhere so we had high expectations. Overall we thought it was good value and provided an excellent finish to our week. A few of the greens were a little scorched around the fringes but in general it was well manicured you could tell you were playing one of the top courses in the region. We were originally booked to play at 2pm and they happily pulled this forward for us to 12pm. The course was extremely quiet so we had no issues with pace of play at this time. Surprising really that they prices are not more dynamic to reflect the lower volume. A nice added touch was the club house detail relating to the 2016, 2017 and 2018 Turkish Open European Tour event.
