Golf Courses at Carden Park Hotel, Golf Resort & Spa

Nicklaus Course

The Nicklaus course, designed by the great Jack Nicklaus and his son Steve, unfolds beautifully in the stunning setting of Carden Park. The layout can stretch to 7,045 yards but even from forward tees, there's more than enough challenge even for the best players in the world.

With several ‘double option’ holes such as 7th and 15th which offer a choice of fairways from which to approach the green. The Nicklaus course offers a scenic yet strategic test of golf where position more than length is crucial.

A Longest Drive competition is recommended on the 4th, with the 16th ideal for Nearest the Pin. An average fourball can expect to complete the Nicklaus Course in around 4 ¾ hours.

Cheshire Course

The 6,653 yard, par 72 Championship Cheshire course hikes through the wooded fells behind the Clubhouse. A wealth of natural hazards make this a highly technical course and will test your skills throughout. Building to a dramatic and scenic finish, with tough 16th and 17th holes followed by the 18th tee atop sandstone cliffs overlooking the resort and Welsh hills. It certainly ensures a round of golf to remember.

A Longest Drive competition is ideal on the 9th hole, with the 15th proving popular for Nearest the Pin, which keeps even the flagging players competitive spirits up right until your return to the Clubhouse. An average fourball can expect to complete the Cheshire Course in 4 ½ hours.

The Carden Park driving range boasts 11 covered bays and
fitting studio plus enjoy a short game area that features a chipping green with 2 greenside bunkers and 2 practice putting greens.

Beautiful hotel in a fabulous setting but disappointed with the golf experience. The greens were not in very good condition. I played here a few years ago and they were much better then. Also, there was no course management, we were behind several groups of hackers with no course etiquette, consequently me and my mate had one five and a half hour round and one four and three quarters.

Great place didn’t stay in hotel we stayed in one of the apartments that’s was excellent very comfortable and all you needed, bit of a walk from the hotel, we eat in the vines restaurant food good & staff friendly. But got woken by a few lady guests and men friends laughing and drinking till about 1am they had no respect for the other guests in the apartment block. So a very bad night had by all.

Great hotel. We were a mixed couples party of 10, and have had an annual trip for the last five years to different golf resorts. Everyone said the hotel was the best yet! One night wasn’t enough to enjoy the full facilities. Great rooms and good food. Ate well for the £25 allowance included in YGT package.

Nearly everything was spot on. Rooms, staff and quality were excellent. Having an agreement for a 3 course meal off the menu, we were restricted to £25 maximum spend per person. This equates to less than 2 courses depending on your choice and certainly not 3 courses.

To clarify we were in a 2 ball and it took 4h 30m but we followed a party so accepted it would be slow. The course again was in good condition considering the overnight weather. Greens a little slower than the Nicklaus but still good. We found this course was not as demanding thank goodness but thoroughly enjoyable and more picturesque. Worth another visit to see if we can play them better!

Average rating for difficulty of the course is my rating as 5 handicapper. The ladies in our party found it difficult and a v long walk. My trolley battery gave up after 16 holes. First time. Nuff said! I played this course a few years ago and thought the condition was better then. Fairways needed a cut and lacked definition. Tees needed a cut. Bunker surrounds have been left to grow out a la Pinehust. Didn’t work for me sadly. Condition of course maybe down to weather before our arrival. A lot of bunkers were GUR.

There is a distance between some of the greens & the next T so I would recommend hiring a buggy, especially if like me you are an older golfer (68) However the bubby hire rate is a bit steep at £30. There is also a Half-Way House on the course which was closed when we passed around 15.30pm.

Generally the course was fine but the greens had just been “holler tined” and were unreliable. However, at this time of year this treatment is necessary although we should have been informed, by the club, and perhaps a reduction of the fee. However we enjoyed the experience.
