Aroeira Golf Club

Cut through majestic pine trees and around stunning blue lakes, PGA Aroeira Lisbon has two championship golf courses that were designed by some of Europe's greatest architects, and have played host to a number of European Tour events. It is rare for a golf club to boast two courses of such outstanding quality, with both the Aroeira No.1 and Aroeira No.2 ranked as some of the best courses in Lisbon.

Located just 30 minutes south of Lisbon, making them the closest courses to the City and 90 minutes from the outstanding new Comporta courses, Aroeira is very accessible for a fantastic golf holiday. The golf club is set in a beautiful pine forest right by the coast, in view of the golf courses, making the perfect setting for your golf break.

Golf Courses at Aroeira Golf Club

Aroeira No.1

Aroeira No.1 opened for play in 1973, having been designed by Frank Pennink. Since then, the course has steadily built up an impressive reputation, culminating with the award of the Portuguese Open in 1996 and 1997 and more recently the International Portuguese Amateur Championship Gentlemen & Ladies (2010 & 2011). From the championship tees, Aroeira No.1 reaches 6,609 yards, and set amidst some 900 acres of beautiful pines, is a stunning location for a game of golf.

Signature Hole: Hole 8, Par 3, 190 metres (208 yards) (White Tees), SI 3

The highlight of Aroeira No.1 course is the par 3, eighth hole which amasses to 208 metres. At stroke index 3, this is a particularly challenging hole and requires a long iron to a green with a remarkable inclination, which slopes sharply to the left and is protected by a large bunker on the right.

Aroeira No.2 Course

With the inauguration of the second course in the year 2000, Aroiera was confirmed as one of Portugal's premier golfing destinations. Aroeira No.2 was conceived by Donald Steel, the man responsible for so many outstanding projects both in the UK and abroad, and has been earmarked for future Portuguese Opens. The course winds its way around several lakes, and with a variety of tee markers on offer, it remains playable for golfers of all standards.

Signature Hole: Hole 11, Par 5, 190 metres (208 yards) (White Tees), SI 6

The raised tee on the 11th requires a tee shot onto a narrow fairway with trees on both sides and a slight dogleg to the left. A slight draw would suit this hole well. The approach shot gives a quite stunning view onto a green closely protected by water and bunkers to the front and to the left.

Aroeira has an excellent golf academy, where you can seek the advice of the expert PGA professionals or simply work on a few of the game's finer points.

Apartment was very basic and dated but was ok for 4 lads. No provisions were supplied and the place was generally old fashioned. We had tv but no English channels and the bathroom had a single bath/shower that went cold after 2 people. Pretty basic really. Needs some upgrade! Facilities in the resort were non existent really. Clubhouse only did toastie for breakfast and similar for lunch. No dinner and no bar post 7pm. No other option either without driving! Staff friendly but nothing to do there really.

Not a hotel - self catered apartments. Very nice, clean and well appointed apartments. This is a very large complex (we were a mile and a half away from our friends' apartment!), so don't think of going here without a hire car. Taxi's are almost non existent and we had to rely on Ubers, which were difficult also.

We had an apartment alongside Aroeira 2 fairways. The apartment was very tired as was the outside. Paving slabs broken and dangerous. Only one shower which you had to hold. curtain rail broken in one bedroom. OK to sleep in but that was about it. A long drive to club house and the few shops on the site. A car is imperative as very difficult to get a taxi.

The worst of the three courses! Condition appalling really especially the greens and tees - not a single flat tee box! Shame cos the layout again was super with some lovely settings, great properties and some really good interesting holes. The last 5 holes are a stern test for a good finish. But again, poor poor quality of the course and loads of dogs wandering. Generally speaking the resort offers potentially excellent golf but it’s tired, needs money and TLC and some facilities. We won’t return despite enjoying the 3 days. There are so many better places.

Course layout was really good actually but the condition was average. Such a shame as it was a good challenge with some interesting holes and layout decent. Properties around the course suggested wealth but they clearly haven’t spent on the course! Enjoyed it anyway as it was warm and dry but If they’d spend some money it could be super

Lovely course in good nick, but be aware that, beyond one toilet, there are no facilities at all (all at Aroeira 1).

Behind a 4 ball who were taking nearly half an hour per hole, had no idea on etiquette and wouldn't call us through. We ended up missing a hole out to get past them. Marshalls didn't do anything to help. Second time we played, no such delays and very enjoyable.

Disliked the course, very boring. Big advantage for ladies with tees well forward. Facilities are non-existent, just a starters shed, you need to ask for a transfer to Aroeira 1 after you have finished if you want a drink.

Not much grass on the fairways. Greens not too receptive to high balls. Did not enjoy as much as Quinta du Peru or Belas. Not very interesting.

Great course everyone enjoyed the round but no real club house, only a caddy master with a fridge of canned beers, soft drinks and water. Buggies were reserved and were there when we arrived.

Played the course twice and all players enjoyed both rounds although the scores could have been better. The first round we teed off around 11.30 and was about five hours, the second round tees off at 10.30 and was under four and a half hours. We reserved two buggies and they were there for our use.

Much harder off the white tees verses yellow. Very pretty course amongst the trees. Tees and some fairways needed a bit of tidying up. Shame there is no range for practising before our round - the only real drawback.

An interesting course with some good holes but it was not presented in good condition. We were not made aware that the two courses at Aroeira are a kilometre apart, leading to transport problems between the clubhouse and Aroeira 2.

No clubhouse so you had to go to a green shed to find the caddy master. no clear signage. Apart for a couple of greens which had a bit of GUR the remainder were fine. Much better than Aroeria 1. lots of bunkers and water which came into play. A good challenge. first time on so would love to play it again as placed a few shots incorrectly not knowing the holes. No bar/ facilities so back to 1 club house. As said earlier you need your own transport as courses are a long away apart from each other.

A bit boring as most were straight fairways with no bunkers apart from a few around the green. A wee bit tight but if hitting straight you can score well. Not too sure how they can call this a championship course.

Mixed condition - very bare in places and over watered in others. No driving range.
